Default Does the X5 have a USB 2.0 host chip

Hi,
I think I might have heard somewhere the X5 has a USB2.0 host port built in, but the cowon firmware can only utilizes USB 1.1.
Is this true? Also does rockbox support USB OTG yet, and would they be able to make use of the USB 2.0 host port, if it does actually have the chip to support USB 2.0 and I was not mistaken.

Thanks.

So far they have made zero progress in implementing USB-OTG, but at least its on the to-do list. As far as the host port goes, I'm pretty sure its not a firmware limitation. Its just USB 1.1.

I suppose you can't have everything. I just thought I was reading a conversation and someone said the usb host port chip could actually support usb 2, maybe I got the context of the conversation wrong.

Nope, the chip definitely is USB 2.0 capable - noone knows why it's only USB 1.1 in the X5:

Is it possibly related to some sort of DRM-related restriction?

USB On-The-Go was introduced in the USB 2.0 standard, it doesn't exist in USB the 1.1 specification. So any device that says USB On-The-Go is also going to say USB 2.0 on it. What matters is the speeds that the transceivers max out at. Unfortunately, I can't find any official links on Ali's site to get at the data, but the links below claim that yes, the controller is capable Hi-Speed transfers.

i have a feeling that the x5 does not even trasnfer OTG at USB 1.1 speeds, i think its slower sumthing like 20-30kb/s. I also think that thats actually a processor problem. 120Mhz processor isn't very fast for controlling the transfer of data from another device by itself

If Rockbox could make the X5's USB-OTG work at 2.0 speeds I would surely regret to have sold my X5.
Since I make a lot of movies with my new CANON S80 (640x480 @30fps) it was one of the main reasons I sold my X5 because it's USB-OTG is useless for files larger than some MB's. It would just take hours to transfer some GB's of data - that is a simple nogo COWON! :thumbsdow

Nevertheless this USB-OTG is better than nothing - at least for some people.
But I don't like half-baked things at all.

So please COWON: Do it right or just leave it - stop releasing DAP's with half-baked features in the future. (X5's Video-feature, USB-OTG and bad FM-recording-quality) :thumbsdow

Hope they learn from their faults.

At it's time , the X5 was revoltionary for having video on such a small device. I don't use FM record, so I can't complain/comment on that. USB-OTG? Again, not many devices even support this feature and I have yet to discover any device which supports USB OTG 2.0 even though the specifcations exist at usb.org

Look what I found in ALi's site:

The first row says that the OTG chip only does FullSpeed usb?
(fullspeed=12Mbps, hispeed=480Mbps)
