As i said, there's an EQ built into Rockbox that's a lot more sophisticated than a mere Bass and Treble option... adjusting the center frequency of the bass-shelf to 50Hz, turning it up to eleven, and lowering the general volume several dB's gives you a nice bass...
With a standardized Bass-slider you won't come close to the M3B sound, since such features normally center somewhere around 70-100Hz.

A good way to raise levels without distortion is turn them down instead >.>
Like if you wanted to raise 60Hz or something 5dB, then you'd lower everything else to -5dB and keep 60Hz at 0. You get your added bass and no clipping
