A2 Firmware 1.72 beta

wooo another beta. I'm not even going to post the bablefish transalation since it's so unreadable. They added a playback speed feature tho (0.7x to 1.5x speed), I tested it and it works great, dont know when im ever gonna need it tho...

I also saw something about AC3, ID3 ??? 2.4, and jpeg stuff.

Oh yea about the drive spinning prob, my drive still spins all the time during raido, movies, and music. Please cowon look into this.

Well here it is

A2 - 1.72 Beta Firmware

I kinda wish they would come out with more "real" releases, but their betas are for the most part error free.

yeh they are error free but Cowon doesn't seem like a company that would release faulty firmware. I am installing it now.

From what I can see the new features are:

1: The ability to adjust the playback speed of movies and music from 0.7x to 1.5x

2: Bigger album art

3: Improved ac3 decoder engine for movies

4: Possibly more language support.

Im sure there is more, this is just what I noticed in the 10 mins it has been on my a2

My album art is bigger. After downloading the firmware, turn on your A2, then shut it down and reboot again. Thanks, Cowon! :bigthumbs

My first impressions aout V1.72beta are that the loading of the album art, compared to V1.70beta, goes faster now. Indeed, the pictures are a little larger now. The function Playback Speed is not yet optimal, and needs some more polishing. And finally, Cowon has not used my final version of the translation into Dutch in this release. I reported about this, and strongly hope that they will do it in the final version. And again about the Playback Speed function: I would strongly prefer that only the speed changes, and that the pitch stays normal. I know an (even cheep) MP3 player which has it like this. Now it sounds as if you were playing a vinyl record at the wrong speed...

::cries:: Who made the decision that changing the speed of movies was more important than playlists? I don't mean to sound like a broken record here, but even ipods have playlists! My old Creative Zen Touch had playlists! Slowing down or speeding up a movie sounds like one of the most useless features I've ever heard of (I can see slightly better reasons for slowing audio, but I still wouldn't call it priority).

I agree Wuggles. Of course it's awesome that Cowon has released yet another firmware in such a short time, but why the fuss about slo-mo in movies?

Sorry if I sound ignorant or cynical, but why is that function so important? To watch porn in slo-mo? :moonu:

Nah, just kidding... but seriously, what would be the advantage of having that function?

The device is designed primarily to watch VIDEO, these enhancments should have priority IMO

These aren't "primarily" for video. I'd have to say it would have to split 2:2:1 between video:audio:recording
