Is there a way to implement shuffle mode that incorporates ALL files?
I've tried every option I could find in Rockbox but couldnt find a way to get the OS to shuffle songs anywhere outside the boundary of the current folder. |

There might be a better way to do this, but this is what I've gotten so far...
Press in the joystick to get to the file browser. Select the folder that all of your music is in (or if it is in multiple folders, repeat this step several times). Hold down the joystick until the menu comes up. Select playlist, then insert shuffled. This should insert all your songs into the playlist, and will shuffle them. As I said, there may be a better way, if so, someone please post the solution. |

Yes, that is one way. Another way is to create a playlist of all the songs on the player (using the Create playlist menu option). Then play it with Shuffle enabled.

is there a possibility that this could be incorporated into the rockbox firmware instead of having to create a huge playlist?

I don't think that would make very much sense. Rockbox is very playlist-centric. Even when you just play one song, it adds the entire directory to the playlist. In that way it is different from the original firmware, and it's just something you have to get used to. Once you realize that everything wrt playback on Rockbox is based on the playlist, it becomes second-nature to add all music to the playlist and play it with shuffle.

I tried to create a playlist like you said, but I obviously don't know what I'm doing. I went to create playlist and ended up adding a single song to it. I'm also curious as to why rockbox does not simply randomly select supported music files? Creating a playlist of all my files seems a bit redundant. EDIT I also tried wbelac's method, which I'm am also, apparently doing it wrong. I browse to my music folder containing all my music files, I push down the stick and wait a sec, then some playlist menu comes up, but it won't add any songs to it, weather I choose add to playlist or insert shuffled or whatever...........help? ________ mexico city hotel Last edited by mat; 02-07-2011 at 07:30.. |

I was having the same conceptual problem last night when I stumbled onto this thread and then onto the solution. This is how I got a full playlist and shuffle to work for me.
From your play screen 1) Press Select to go to the file directory screen 2)Move to your main music directory (typically "MUSIC") and push right to go into the directory. 3)Now press Rec to go to the Main Menu 4)Go to and enter the Playlist Options menu item 5)Push Right on the Create Playlist option - it will start creating a playlist for MUSIC and saves it at the root level of the files. 6)Go back to the Root dir in the filesystem view (push left till you get there) 7)Press right to select and load the MUSIC playlist. And if you have shuffle set at the Main Option level you should be good to go. It looks like it reshuffles every time you reload the playlist. If you don't like the Playlist at the root level you can cut and paste the file into the Playlist folder. Det |

you also might set it up for id3 browsing..
than you will play 'from' song (instead of playing from genre, album, or anything else)... If you have shuffle activated it will play the tracks shuffled but. it thinks shuffle isnt' that randomily, but i got no time to that's for later.. |

thank you Detrytus, it's working now, sometimes I need extra-simple instructions.
I haven't gotten deep into the ID3 browsing, but I'll also look into that. ________ Toyota Team Europe specifications Last edited by mat; 02-07-2011 at 07:32.. |

You don't need to create a playlist or copy and paste.
I don't have my player right now so this is off my creaky head. On "file browsing" or browsing by file types, I think the option there is Music, ID3, Supported..Etc. Select Music or Supported. Now go back to main directory and look for "Root" and play it. All the music files on your device will play either shuffled or not. I worked for me. |

In ID3 browsing, is it possible to play all songs from an artist (all its albums). A long click only displays "open with" and i m not sure there is anything in the proposed list to play music. Is there a way to do that? or enqueue all artists songs into the current playlist?
