The PMP2010 has, as far as I could find out, far less features than the A2. The number of supported file formats is quite lower, and battery life is only average. I did not find a card reader of USB On The Go. And there is no FM radio. So the A2 still is the one with most possibilities.

So far the only ones I've seen that even come close to the A2 are the Viliv P1, the Archos AV500, and the Zen Vision... this can't compete with those I think...

Hm, what I really meant was ones that are available in the US in stores (eBay doesn't count
)... with that in mind, the Viliv P1 actually is in the US now, and it's very tempting, except I don't trust the company as much as Cowon, and the price is pretty high ($499 USD). Actually from March 27-30 it's just $449.http://www.shopviliv.com/ |

Maxian T600 does everything that A2 & AV500 can do, & does it better except audio & photo but T600 is no slouch in these departments. The "killer" of T600 over A2 is its screen at par with the brilliant AV500's, plus T600's full-screen zooming capacity at Video which A2 doesnt have & replaceable battery that A2 doesnt have.
Look at the firmware updates of T600: v112,v116,v119, v122,v133, v140,v140mega, v141, v141mega, & now v150. And you'd be as impressed by T600's diligence & frequency as the A2 is. USA boasts of one of the most free economy in the world but still cant have all the delicacies from the Korean PMPs. And one thing about forums is that you cannot reach conclusion from forums just by gleaning hearsays from other participants when most PMPs cant be avail at USA. Not even the Istation v43 can rival the T600 for now, in my opinion. What are the "minuses" in T600? -- No Radio, Photo cannot be swiveled & flipped & no multi thumbnails. What is the A2 that the others cant rival for now? The function of "Recent Files" which i miss most, if you know what I mean :blah: |

i like that it has 100gb, but using a 2.5-inch hard drive makes it bigger, heavier, and the battery won't last as long.
plus, i won't even consider another PMP if it doesn't support AC3, and so far the A2 is the only one that does so among the PMPs that are readily available in the USA. AFAIK anyway. |

I don't get what about the viliv is that good. It doesn't really have anything the A2 doesn't have except for flash support. Otherwise the A2 is the same or beats the viliv.

It's smaller (the body of the player, the screen is still 4 inches) and lighter, and I like the navigations system more, and the flash thing is really nice for a lot of people; after all, there are some pretty good flash games and videos out there that I would love to be able to use on my a2. Strangely video recording is one of the features of the A2 that I use least. My favorite thing is the widespread video codec support, most of which are also supported by the Viliv.

One of the other nifty features of the Viliv P1 is that it has a built-in FM transmitter for in-car play or when in proximity to a stereo.
That being said, I just bought the Cowon A2 about 10 minutes ago, on ZipZoomFly. In the end, the A2 - Is about $70 less expensive (even with the current $40 off the Viliv) - Has a larger US user base so I can seek out community help, if/when things go on the fritz - Has a MUCH longer battery life - Has regular regular firmware updates, where the Viliv site doesn't indicate the same - And is more than an inch shorter (less long) than the Viliv, even if it is about 2 oz heavier When it comes right down to it, I can buy an add-on FM transmitter to match the Viliv's niftiness, but no amount of software upgrades are likely to ever allow the Viliv to record video. Admittedly, the ability to play flash videos and games is pretty cool, but this still remains my favorite flash animation of all time and I can live with the fact that I'll need my PC to watch it: http://www.ultimateshowdown.org/ |
