I was thinking of getting one just for the hell of it and comparing it with the X5. I heard that the sound is really good.

Yeah, there were some reviews over at Headfi or hydrogenaudio (or some kinda site like that) that really prefferred the Kenwood over the X5.

Personally I would go for the successor HD30GA9 (which has NO white noises and rumored to be gapless for MP3).
