How do I convince a friend not to get a 5th gen ipod?
He's set on getting one, but obviously since I have an X5 I want to steer him away from the road to hell.

Let him play with your X5 (if you trust him with it
) and if he still wants the pod, then so be it. It's his money. |

You cant help him.
Some people are blinded by advertising and shiny metal and plastic. Other people know quality. You are one of the fortunate ....and he ......a future fanboy.

Point out the radio and recording features, for starters...things I'm fairly sure the iPod doesn't offer. Also point out that you don't _need_ software to use an X5.

voice recorder, fm radio, no software, iaudiophile.net, battery life, flac, wma, other formats such as napter or yahoo music, if he likes itunes tell him about badapple, plug camera into it.
however the ipod does look sweet, smaller, better video quality, tv output, ipod linux

And then.... let him make his own decision - could be that he just wants a DAP that's really really simple and easy to use and from what I can see the iPod working with iTunes is failry simple.
Each to his own. |

Oh thats easy, i convinced my friend not to buy a nano and he loves the x5l now.
1) OTB-USB - tell him what it does, can connect to iaudio, camera, thumbdrive, external hard drive, etc 2) Line in & Line out 3) Microphone - 1up if he is in college 4) FM Radio and fm radio recording 5) 35hr battery cant beat that + about 10hr video 6) Newegg.com has the 30gb X5L for $300 now 7) No need for iTunes!!!! Simple file transfer and organization, no program required just plug it in and have fun. -If your friend doesnt like that, sorry but hes an idiot |

If he doesn't need the extra features, the iPod is a perfectly good choice. Some people don't care about SQ remember...

I wouldn't say that the ipod is a "road to hell"...
just show him some of the features mentioned above. if he'll never use them then the ipod is better for him. |
