i was looking at cnet and i read some reviews for that iriver h320.
one person mentioned that you could transfer DVDs directly to it. Is this possible with the X5? If not, why is possible with the iriver as opposed to the x5?

Actually....
Yes their is a way. First you need iriverter. Put the DVD in the DVD drive, and click the DVD button (on iriverter) looks like a CD. Choose what language, the movie, subtiles (blah blah blah) and select the options that you want. If it is widescreen, i suggest using Pan and Scan (makes it full screen) 1.8" is not good for widescreen. Select the output (your X5 Movie Drive) and click convert. When it is done, turn on X5 and enjoy!

Iriverter was first intended for converting videos for the Iriver H300s, but now you can also use it for the X5, and other players. With either the H320 or X5 it takes the same process to convert videos, which is very simple. And no, you cannot transfer DVDs directly onto either, trust me i know, i've own an X5 and H320. You must copy the DVD onto your computer, then covert it to the proper format using iriverter( make sure that in the options you choose Iaudio instead of Iriver, cause each has different screen size). Finally you put it on your player. The H320 is expensive, for it is hard to find cause it is not in production anymore. I would difinitly buy an Iaudio, if i were you. It is more up-to-date and new firmware releases will make it even better. The iaudio has everything the Iriver has in a smaller and more compact package, i love how you can change the wallpaper with any of your images, make playlists on the player without using a computer, and it has a usb host(for devices like cameras, very useful on the go) -all things the H320 doesnt have. Plus the you can get the X5 30 gb or X5L 30gb version very cheap ($270 for 30gb, and 20 gb for $240) at ecost.com , where i got it from- the H320 (20gb) is going over $300+ right now!!!. Trust me cause i own both players, the main advantage the iriver has on the X5 is the screen quality, but either is not meant for videos, cause of their small screen. The X5 is more stylish of the two, and also the more newer. If its between these two players, GO WITH THE X5. Sorry i made this a long post. If your still have questions, regarding either player, i'll do my best to answer. Last edited by Diego; 12-02-2005 at 20:47.. |

I think that Konechiwa means that, using irvierter, he had the output from the program saving directly to his X5 which was always plugged into his PC. Personally I save all my encoded videos to a folder on my desktop and then just copy them over the next time my X5 is connected.
