Poll: Line-In Timer for Recording Radio (like A2)
I think a Line-In Recording Timer for the X5 would be a nice feature and easy to realize too!
Recording from internal FM is really a pain at the moment. The X5's FM-reception quality can never reach a standalone-FM-receiver's quality. And in the moment you start recording from FM the sound quality gets even more distorted. So FM-recording with my X5 is a no-go for me. Line-In would be best for recording FM-Radio at a really acceptable quality without any distortion! I would love this feature because now I still have to use my Computer for FM-Recording. And cause I mainly record after-midnight-shows in my single-room appartement it's really annoying with all the PC-vent's running all night long. Btw: Cowon already implemeted this feature into the A2! (last review confirmed this!) I think it wouldn't be a big deal to implement it into the X5's firmware. The feature already exists, they just have to add another option to it! What do we have to do to make this come true for the X5? I think first step is a making a little poll - so lets do it. ok, i'm all for it. i wouldn't mind being able to record my friends' shows on our local radion station without losing much sound quality. there's just so much hilarity that ensues when drunk college students all think it's a good idea to phone the radio station all at once.

I think it's a good idea. Especially since you could use it to record satellite radio.

when you record from the fm radio, do you get a fairly loud tapping every second or so on the recording? it happens every time i record, and i think it is probably due to the heard disk, and impossible to avoid, but it would be nice to confirm that it isnt a fault with my x5

I don't get any clicking with my FM encodings. But what does happen with me is that the hard drive spinning 'causes a little bit of static in the FM tuner. But thats no big deal, moving my headphone cord around to get better reception gets rid of it.

I don't get any clicking with my FM encodings as well.
Works like a charm besides that ugly little distortion no matter how strong the stations frequency is. Your clicking doesn't sound good to me. Try another firmware, radiostation and/or headphone with another cord. If this doesn't help - RMA it at once. PS: Nearly 80 views for this thread now but only 8 votes at the poll! Please Vote!!! |

Yeah, the remote - I absolutely forgot that possibility.
I remember that some people on the board experienced the same problem. So it's a known issue - don't worry. |

I wouldn't record important stuff on the X5 anyways. Timed line-in recording would go on my computer, via 24/96-soundcard. I could convert it to MP3 later, also in a much higher quality than the X5 could do (e.g. LAME 3.90.3 --alt-preset standard)
But for voice-recording or the occasional FM the X5's quite nice.

the buds that came with the x5 i got great reception with. but since they suck for audio i got some in ear canalphones and my reception went downhill though. i think the type of heaphones is one factor for reception quality since the player uses the headphones/cord for the antenna

I was so bummed to find out that I couldn't do timed line-in recordings. I think this will become a necessity for those who will want to record internet broadcasts and satellite radio for on the go listening.

Line-In timer: this feature is of very great interest for me too. This was in "top five" of my feature list for selecting the right player. Although It is not in current firmware I bought a X5L, hoping (desperately) that this will be done in some future version of the firmware.

if you are really concerned about quality, I would suggest a standalone radio hooked up to a computer.

in the description of the x5 it tells of the "timer record" but it should really read "fm timer record" because any other timed recording other than from fm does not exist. now im trying to record howard stern from satellite radio and it proving difficult.
i paid $300 for a function that doesn't exist. the only other timer recorder i know with line-in is the olympus vn-960 which only records at a crappy 8 or 16k recording rate. it does get the job done though for talk radio. although i would love to make my x5 function as promised in the description of the device. thanks to who ever started this poll. maybe it will become reality...yeah right. later |
