Hi there,
I searched the forum but I could not find a detailed guide for the procedure. Can anybody provide one? I do not want to wreck the player... TIA, pusco |

As the X5 is a relativly new model, I doubt many people are prepared to invalidate their warranty, so you could be the trail blazer in this department - Good Luck !

I would assume:
1. unscrew the 4 screws 2. Open case 3. Dig for HD 4. Unplug HD 5. Remove HD 6. Insert and plug in new HD 7. Close case and return screws. I take no responsibility for any attempts to follow these instructions or any actions that are performed which may void the warranty.

as i've heard it the 30gb is the largest one you can put inside the X5 since thoose that have more storage are larger in size too, thus not fit, am i right?

I believe Toshiba has a single platter 40GB drive coming out... I dont know if it will work, though.

From what I understand, the harddrive is fairly hard to get to and soldered in so be prepared for some trouble. I think some pictures were posted as an article a while back. I'd look there first.

Hi there,
thanks for the nomination... I accept the challenge :-) Linoleum is right, it is not that easy to get the hdd out of the case, I had a brief look at it. But I was unable to find pictures showing the "trouble of dismantling", that is why I asked for a detailed guide. Anyway, I will dig into this and get back with the results as soon as I can. I think someone mentioned that there is some space left in the height of backside cover of the player and the battery is sitting on top of the hdd. So it might be possible to fit a thicker hdd in the case than the 20GB I have at the moment. Concerning the "one-platter-hdds": There are 40GB disks with one platter but I am more interested in a 60GB model... Maybe someone should start a "Pimp my X5" thread. Have a nice day, pusco |
