Problems with shuffle mode

I just received a new iaudio 9, completely new for the second time. The former one I had to send back because of a problem with the shuffle mode. It just didn't work. But now with the new one I have the same problem! Is this me? I always have had iaudio, the last one was iaudio 7 and never had problems.

I copy the music albums divided in folders to the music folder on the iaudio. This seems to be no problem, I can play all the albums and artists. While playing a song I press the play button, the menu appears, I choose the playfunction icon ( triangle with arrows around it) then i set it the boundary to all music, repeatmode (arrows in circles) and finally the shuffle mode (arrows crossed).

I see all the right icons on theplaying screen but if I choose the next song it will simply play the next song....

I tried upgrading, resetting... What am I missing here??
