Default order of album art in matrix browser

I was wondering if the order in which the album art is shown in the matrix browser (when you tilt the j3 when album art is shown) can be influenced in any way. The album art is all mixed up now. It would be more convenient if it was sorted by artist or alfabethical or something.

It is presented in alphabetical order by "album title", as derived from the "album" tags in the database for your music files.

Whatever album art is shown when you play a music track from that album, that's the art which shows in the Music player, and also the miniature 95x95 small cell that gets tiled in Matrix Browser in its (2x5 array).

The currently playing track's album art is shown in the middle cell of the second row (i.e. in cell (2,3)) and the remaining 5 cells in front of it and the 4 cells after it are simply the alphabetically surrounding albums, based on the "album title" tag field value (not the external folder name for that album).

Thanks for your reply.

I would like to see the album art sorted by artist. So that all the albums by e.g. Pearl Jam are shown next to each other and then for instance all david bowie albums, etc...

The only way this can be done it seems is to give the album tags of the same artist an artist number. In this way the J3 will group the albums of one artist together in the matrix browser.

It would have been nice if cowon had made this a feature. Would have saved me a lot of work by tagging the album tags with an artist number.

Sorry, won't happen. Cowon gives no options whatsoever in how you want it sorted and has no future plans to do so either. It's been a complaint since the Cowon S9 of this FORCED ALBUM SORTING (I personally hate it myself and is very cumbersome). Don't fret though, There are alternatives made by users though here in the forum.

If you want it sorted by [Forced] Artist Sorting:
Stormedia made a rather unique UI not reproduced by anyone else on any of Cowon's devices. Sadly no updates have happened for a long time and I have no clue if it does external sources (SD Card) as I don't use that type of Coverflow/cover browser (I use the one mentioned below in the next passage). This reads off the album database on your device and is the very reason why the UI is a bit slow but not enough to hurt the usefulness of it. The UI can be found here and is a Music UI btw, can not be used as a browser or browser replacement.

Might want to look at the Photogenic UI if want access to multiple Music UI's or any UI thereof...

If you want it sorted by [Forced] Folder Sorting:
El Maco has made a coverflow UI so unique that it can practically be used with any music UI but is preferred on Kizune's Sense and Leaf as it's integrated in the UI if you use El Maco's Coverflow plugin (version 103p). Like the last UI I suggested though (somewhat), it does not support external sources (SD Card). So it only reads off the internal memory. You must use the [included] batch processing program on your computer though to get this up and running correctly. This is a "Static Snapshot UI", so if you add or remove anything from your music folder, you must batch process again to update the files (like syncing aka ipod/Zune style). If you don't add or remove often, it works really well. Now this is currently the ONLY Coverflow UI on Cowon Devices that is fast and smooth, and works really well. Here is a link to it and no this is a coverflow browser replacement not a music UI.

These both were made for the S9 (reason for not external support as mentioned above) but can be used on the J3 and X7 with these tradebacks.
These two are really great and you should give them a try before wrting them off !

Thanks for your advices da1writer. I am using a 32 GB SDHC card so it seems the apps you recommend aren't of much use because with them I can only see the songs stored on the 16 GB internal memory.

Anyway, I did tag my songs with a artist number for the albumart tag. So now I have...

000010 - artist1
000020 - artist2
000030 - artist3
etc.

My albumart in the matrix browser is now sorted by artist and when I browse the album by albumtags I get them sorted by artist too, which is a bonus.

I've been reading about Kizune UCI's and have not yet checked them out. I like the matrix browser and I don't think Sense has an albumart browser in it. can anybody tell me the benefits of Kizunes UCI's compared to the standard mainmenu/music player etc?

Why not try them out (Lynx, Sense, and Leaf), then you can decide for yourself. If you don't like them you can merely delete the files. Installing the UI's does not require flashing the memory/ firmware to get it working. they are merely swf files after all. You will be a fan though like everyone else here. You'll find the customizability, options, and visual style unlike anything on Cowon's devices - trumping Cowon's default one's with ease. Give it a go and then report back in those threads. As you can see in my sig, I'm a huge fan of Kizune's work! His threads don't break the couple thousand views mark for nothing ! Vision (Picture UI) is also pretty good !
