hi guys,
i'm planning on either getting the X5 or the iriver H320 as an mp3 player. i'm not too fond of the looks of the iriver, though i love the 'sharpness' of the GUI and the quality of it playing videos, even if it is at 10fps. however, looks on the outside are also important, which is why i'm also considering the iaudio. is the iaudio x5's video playing capabilities as bad as reviews say it is (lack of quality due to its relatively low resolution)? i'm just going to play cartoons and maybe the odd music video clip, not action movies or stuff that requires a lot of detail to look good. if someone could give me a link to the x5 playing videos or share their opinions i would really appreciate it. thanks! edit: spelling |

as far as cartoons go, the x5 does a good job.
but regarding music videos, ill admit it could definitly be better, but it does a well enough job for me (and it's really not as bad as some reviews say it is) *edit* and if you wanna check out what the video looks like in action, check out cnet's video for the x5--they briefly show the x5 playing a music video, and that's what it pretty much looks like |

I agree with Dan for the most part. It's excellent for cartoons and ok for regular movies.

thanks guys. i'm having a dilemma as to whether i should get the h320 or x5.
320 pros: sharper GUI, bigger resolution, no need for dock, buttons instead of joystick, rockbox being developed soon 320 cons: thicker, uglier, slow bootup (presumably), hard to find LCD remote, probability there won't be any more firmware upgrades from iriver x5 pros: kickass battery life (i'll probably be getting the x5l version), looks a lot nicer x5 cons: need for dock, GUI isn't as nice as 320's, joystick, headphone jack on side, though i don't think that's an issue as my e3c's have a L shaped jack. |

The resolution on X5 for TV shows (Full screen) such as Sex and The City or Friends are pretty good. However, action movies (wild screen) ripped from DVDs are kind of fuzzy. 15fps is not enough for actions.
I thought about the same question like yours before I bought my x5 instead of the h320. Is it because 1) only available on eBay in USA. 2) 10fps. 3) too big for me. 4) all of above? My answer is 4. If you really want to have a nice video player, get a bigger screen ones such as Sony PSP, Cowon A2, Archos AV400 or iRiver PMC120... Good luck... |

I do NOT reccomend buying a psp unless you already have an x5. The Sony PSP is horrible for space and the only reason I would buy one is for video because I already have my x5 and it works with USB OTG. I hear the gmni 402 is good for video but sound quality and general looks aren't up to par with the x5. I'm personally trying to return my x5 and waiting for the a2 but I don't know how that'll fly with Cowon considering I'm past 30 days. I wouldn't trust iRiver with video though. If all you're using your x5 for is cartoons and the occasional music video ( and of course music!) go with the x5. You won't regret it.

i can vouch that for watching cartoons the x5 is great. family guy and the simpsons are a joy to watch on it. i havent watched movies but after watching seinfeld, i dont think i would enjoy a full length action movie so much, though it could be done. but the player does shine for cartoons.

i mean lets face it, a 160 x 128 15fps resolution just isnt all that for movies for most people. its just logic. if i was on a bus ride id still watch one cause it wont be that bad and heck i got my x5 with me, but it really is better for short shows and animated stuff. u want to watch full length movies i would definitely say go with a player with better video.

I honestly do wish i had a higher resolution when watching things like "Pulp Fiction" but like idiot says, it'll do in certain conditions.

my pics look disappointing on the x5. it was and still is my biggest letdown of my x5 was the rsolution. just not enough pixels. even if the screen was the same dimensions but more dense pixels id be happy. it just doesnt havfe enough pixels to be a good video player.
