Okay, so having just unbricked my legacy d2 thanks to the thread that deals with that, I'm installing rockbox again.
However, I'm running into some problems. First of, you should know I'm using the rockbox utility. If manual would help, I'd look into making my own bootloader since I've done that. So, anyway, legacy d2 recently unbricked and given the most recent regular d2 firmware. I then changed the firmware to the d2+ via the method that doesn't use tcctool, which, I'm lead to believe, works just as well (by all appearances, it does.) I upgraded to d2+ firmware 3.14 in the traditional way after this. I then used the d2n_p.bin file (main firmware file) to create a bootloader using the rockbox utility, which worked fine this time (no bricks, though it only bricked on attempt 3 last time). Here's where I get uncertain as to the best procedure. I installed rockbox via the utility (current build) onto my d2's onboard memory. Now this worked just fine with the flash card out, but for some reason, whenever I boot up rockbox with my flash card in, it gives me the following dialogue: Rockbox boot loader version r23363-091026 ATA Mount File not found And then shuts down immediately. That's actually a step up from last time: sometimes, I'd have to hard reset to be able to turn it on again before, but this works fine otherwise. Note that this only happens with the flash card in. Anyway, the way I solved this last time was I installed rockbox on both my main memory and my flash card, since it's only 10mb. That seemed to work well enough, but to me it just seems like a sloppy workaround? Is there a more elegant solution to this? I've tried installing it ONLY on the flash card, only to get a different error with it in (something like no .rockbox directory found!, and then being sent to a rockbox without a skin that doesn't have functional codecs). I'm willing to look into anything, even non standard boot loaders, since I know I can just unbrick it if I have to, now. |

try not to use rockbox utility for D2/D2+ its not designed to support it even if it works properly & remember to insert the .rockbox file in the external memory & erase the .rockbox folder from the internal memory.

At any rate, I removed it from my d2's internal memory, and then used the bootloader the other guy recommended. It seems like it's gotten better, but now it's just a new error. Basically, no more boot load error, but now it just doesn't seem to start up every time. It'll go to the bootloader, and then an indefinate black screen. I have to hard reset to be able to boot up again. Sometimes it will boot up just fine, but it's kind of a crap shoot... 1/5 times. |

The black screen is an intermittent bug that affects some builds at the moment, sorry. Try downloading a newer/older revision, that's all I can suggest until it is fixed.
