btw can someone fill me in on what visual styles are, and how people got there desktops and taskbars to look different from the default?

Nah, Rainmeter has nothing to do with visual styles and changing the appearance of the taskbar and window panes.

Rainmeter is a desktop widget utility. Visual styles are controlled inside Windows customization options.
