Default How-To Recover your Bricked S9 using Tcctool

Hello, a User: joecool finally found the right value to unbrick his S9. other users who had bricked theirs followed and accepted to use this value and it was a success! we all would like to thank him for his work and help

Quote:
NOTE: Tcctool should ONLY!!! be used if you..

-Can't seem to connect your S9 to a PC [S9 not being detected once connected]
-S9 appears to reboot [A repeated Loop while accepted to load the OS [Firmware]]
-Can't turn on S9
-All other things Failed [Tried turning on while Charging or trying to use the reset button, Etc.]
DOWNLOAD TCCTOOL

[Note for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users] i have found out that tcctool doesn't work and is unable to find the S9 while accepting to use Tcctool for Unbricking your S9. reboot PC and hit F8 before Vista or Win. 7 boot logo appears. There will be several options. Select [Disable driver signature enforcement] and that should allow you to use Tcctool. You'll have to do this step everytime if you want to use Tcctool though

Guide is ready and uploaded! Newer and BETTER! .PDF Link .DOC Link

Sub Folder "Containing the Drivers"

[Text Based Guide: Fix Device]
-Open CMD and input cd C:\tcctool then tcctool -d cowons9 COWON_S9_FW.BIN then press ENTER

Copy/paste all the Firmware Files to the ROOT of the S9 then disconnect then reconnect your S9 while still putting into Recovery Mode. REPEAT the same command tcctool -d cowons9 COWON_S9_FW.BIN or you can Hit the *Up Arrow key on your Keyboard to bring that command back up in CMD. wait for File transfers to complete! Your S9 should turn off after the FW Upgrade. disconnect then you should be able to turn on your S9

Note: input cowons9small instead of cowons9 for small S9 models 8GB/16GB

I think a backlink to the original thread with all the info would be beneficial: http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=36073

@Who Am I

I have the exact same situation with the Cowon X7. I have manage to go through almost all the steps (you can plug it in boot mode by pressing "M" (menu) when plugging it. But in the final steps, it is not detected. I suppose it is because Tcctool is not programmed for the X7. Do you have a clue as to what I could do ? (Tcctool did successfully upload the .bin file to the X7 but then it's not detected.)

Thanks

I just transfered my files on it, and when starting again, it gets stuck in the "updating database" phase. There is apparently nothing I can do (I tried a lot of things). I just discovered that I could put it in USB boot mode by pressing M when connecting it.

Yes, he included a little loaded and off. On your computer, it does not appear as a separate disk, but only T7901 usb-boot mode.
He stopped working after formatting with 64KB cluster ((
My hand curves)
