Default Claw UI on J3 Questions

So I've read the entire update list before and was left with the impression that I could create:

1.) Multiple Playlists on the player or on my PC? (I'd really like to know if its both or only PC)
2.) Combine Playlists on the player itself? (This is important to know)
A.) Does it combine them temporarily?
B.) Can I save and name the combined playlists into a new playlist?
3.) If 2 playlists are combined and they each have some of the same songs, are those songs duplicated or does it remove 1.?

4.) A bit off topic but, can I search by genre and mood on the player (J3)?
__________________________________________________ _______________

My Plan:
Organize all of my music by mood, I've come up with 8 different classifications. I am labeling each song according to the moods it falls under. So after that I will take an entire artist's collection and drag'n'drop the appropriate songs into the matching playlists.

Final Product: I will have 8 playlists per artist, each representing a different mood. Finally I'll be capable of taking any mood I want from an artist and combining it with another.

Example: We'll just say I only have 2 moods per artist instead of 8, this will show you what I want to be able to do.

(H) - Happy, (S) - Sad [These are 2 playlist abbreviations for moods]. After the abbreviation then comes the artist.

(H) Yoko Kanno
(S) Yoko Kanno
(H) The Seatbelts
(S) The Seatbelts
*pretend this goes on for a bunch of artists

Now, say I click on (H) Yoko Kanno and it starts playing that artist, can I add another playlist to the already playing 1, like for example "(H) The Seatbelts"?

My brief experience with Claw UI on the J3 didn't go too well. I wound up on a blank screen that I couldn't get off, and when I restarted the player, the menu screen was still blank. I had to remove the Claw UI files from the FlashUI directory to get the J3 working again.

Claw UI might need some changes to make it 100% compatible with the J3, although this was just my experience. Claw UI might work better for someone else with different firmware (I'm on 2.03).

In general, S9 music UCIs have worked nearly 100% on my J3, but some of the S9 main menus, and especially those with additional .SWF files, have had some issues with not working exactly right.

[It turns out I hadn't installed Claw UI according to the instructions. It works much better after a second try doing things the right way. More info below.]

Ouch, I think I just got stabbed, that's disheartening, it'd be wonderful to hear some of those success stories about Claw UI on the J3

Claw UI appears to be "THEE" UI that makes the S9 what it is, I really thought that it wouldn't have any issues on the J3

Claw's UI rocks my S9. I use it mainly for it's music UCI. So I tried it on the J3. It worked, but of course the music UCI looks like a pimped out version of the S9's . Unfortunately, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't change the background to black.

Can't say how playlists work as I must be the only person who doesn't use them on my DAPs.

Funtastic news thank you so much for your response DAP. Cheers mate. Still a mess-load of questions unanswered on the top of this thread, if you have that info, it'd be great to share

HI. I have heard a lot about this UCI but never found any pictures of it. It is the music UCI I am interested in. Anyone have any links or pictures to share?

Many thanks
Mark

Hi, Mark,

Here's someone else's picture of the Claw music UCI, running on the S9 on the right. It's identifiable by the "Quick List" slideout on the right hand side of the screen.

Most of the configurability of the Claw music UCI is dependent upon installation of other parts of the UI. The album art is configurable to be full width, font sizes and colors can be changed and tag data moved around on the screen. It's very flexible.

I shouldn't have been so hasty to say the UI wasn't working on the J3. Once I followed the installation instructions on the wiki, things started working much better. At first, when I went to certain selections under the J3 Settings screen or the second J3 main menu, the screen went blank and the J3 needed to be power cycled. This behavior was remedied by removing the Claw launcher.swf file from the FlashUI directory. At that point the widget screen in Claw UI stopped displaying, and returning to the last screen before power off and automatically starting music on startup stopped working, too. I want those added features, so I readded launcher.swf, and won't use other main menus or the J3 Settings screen for now.

The Claw UI Wiki is here:

I noticed an interesting behavior while using Claw UI on the J3. When playing music in the Music UCI, the FF and REW buttons on the side of the player are reversed in their functions. However, when the screen goes to sleep (completely black) the buttons perform their correct functions.

I thought that moving from firmware 2.03 to 2.10 might solve the issue since one of the fixes for the release is "Fixed the error of FF, REW buttons after screen is on/off in Radio Mode", but I just upgraded to 2.10, and the behavior is still the same. I wonder if the Claw Music UCI works that way on the S9, or if the J3 has an issue with how those buttons are mapped.

flazok, I have experienced the same issue. I would be interested to know too. Not a major but a little annoying.

Funny. The thing I like about Claw's music UCI is that I can remove the "Quick List" function. *YAY* And it supports larger album art which is cool. Wish it supported multiple album art on a single file. Oh, well.

I'm not currently using this UCI, but I still love it.

... or if the J3 has an issue with how those buttons are mapped.
As far as I know the S9 has the same problem with the J3 UI so I guess thats the point.
