Cursing Looks Like I Killed It

A bit less than a month ago, my S9's hold button broke on the subway ride home and became stuck in the "hold position", forcing me to enjoy what was to be my last album from the device before it shut off for good. As the warranty had run out, I decided to try and fix it myself. When I opened it up (following the guide here on iAudiophile.net), I discovered one of the bosses around the hold switch had broken loose, meaning that the hold button could only be pushed one way from the outside). Thinking that the boss had fallen into the player itself, I followed the procedures outlined in the guide and took the rest of the player apart. I never did find that boss, and what's worse, now the touch screen no longer works.

Now I'm stuck in a catch-22 situation: I'm going on vacation to England in about 2 weeks. I've been able to find a D2+ for $179CAD, but that's a subpar solution since all of my videos were coded for the S9 and J3. The only S9 that I've found for sale in Canada so far is almost $300CAD, and far beyond my price range, and the only J3 that I've found is a silver 8GB for $210CAD + tax and shipping, which would take at least a week to get here, probably more.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the S9 working again? Or have I given myself a very expensive paperweight with a beautiful AMOLED screen?

Not exactly a solution if you really need your videos, but a Sansa Clip could do and admirable job on the music front. It's inexpensive and hopefully you can get your S9 fixed when it comes back.

Why aren't you considering getting the S9 repaired by the Cowon Techs?
D2 is of course a good option but only if you're fine with a smaller screen (it can be a little frustrating to downgrade, let me warn you).

Also, sansa fuze rather than the clip would be a good option if you're looking for another media player.

I toyed with the idea of sending it off to Cowon, however I wouldn't get it back in time for the trip. As for the D2+, I know well what that player is capable of: I had one before the S9, only to have it fall off of my desk and crack the touch screen. In any case, it no longer matters: I bit the bullet and bought a 16gb J3 from NCIX. Should be here either Monday or Tuesday.
