Default G-Sensor Accelerometer + Volume Control

Hi,

I was wondering, does anyone else who has a J3 hook it up to their car auxiliary system? I've had it for about a week now, and I've noticed something while driving to and from work - the volume seemed to change at random. Sometimes it would be quieter, other times it would be louder. And I was sure I could hear the change in it too. After a few days, I started wondering why it might behave that way, and how it could happen.

I came to the conclusion that with the G-Sensor Accelerometer, when there's a lot of motion sensed (from normal driving), the volume increases to make up for... whatever reason. And when you're slowing down or stopping/stopped, the volume decreases back to normal. I did not check the actual volume numerical indicator while driving (since doing so while driving is dangerous), but I suspect it might behave in this way.

Is it just me, or does anyone also notice this? Or maybe I'm just being insane.

(I'm running the Korean based 1.02 firmware, which I also said in the firmware thread, it's better you don't upgrade to it.)

With no on-screen volume slider, and only a tiny rocker on the side for control, using a tilt of the J3 for volume sounds like a great idea. Not to practical though. I think what's more likely is that your car stereo has volume leveling to adjust the volume as road noise changes.

I still can't figure out how exactly the Accelerometer works in the J3.. anyone care to explain?

@4DThinker: I thought that too. But if that was the case, then I would have noticed that with the 5 years in which I've had a Creative Zen Touch, and Creative Zen Vision M. So I doubted that was it.

Maybe I'm just insane after all. ^^;

I don't doubt you, py7133. But if you're hearing it then it can only be one of a few things.

1. The J3 itself is fluctuating output.
2. The cable/connections used is at fault. If it's an old one it may be degrading.
3. The head unit is fluctuating output.

You might want to see if you can find a user manaul for your head unit. That sound leveling "feature" may be something you've had all along but only got activated recently.

Try a different cable to see if that fixes the problem.

Use a different player again. If it only happens with the J3, then there is a ghost in your J3.

I checked the cable, and I think it was the cable. I noticed today it was acting weird on my Zen (;_; my J3 died...) so I think that was it. This thread can now be closed.
