Default AAC Fully supported! (Updated)

If you have .m4a AAC encoded music, no need to worry. Cowon very evidently doesn't have a good marketing team. I got someone with a J3 to test it out for me and all the m4a files from multiple sources and different bitrates worked just fine as is. -thanks to WizeGuyDezignz

PS- Technical specs for this device should be updated...

EDIT: ALL stereo AAC formats are supported. I've tried them!

Tis about time Cowon got with the program! There is seemingly no sense in ignoring the AAC format, esepcially when trying to woo former iPod owners into buying a Cowon device. Having to transcode files is simply lame (pardon the pun).

Having said that, Bigpond music offer 320kpbs encoded music, iTunes only offer 256kpbs... To my ears, even that margin makes quite a difference.

AAC is double the quality in half the bitrate, so that would mean 512kbs for AAC.

I'm afriad I find this statement to be terribly spurious. I think the files on my iPhone are still in AAC format, so when I get home from my weekend away I'll test both the AAC and mp3 versions. I don't mind being proven wrong.

I would love to have a source for that

If this doesn't simply work for you on the S9, then I'm not sure.

As expected the audio file doesn't show up in the browser.

Try renaming it to .mp4 and .aac.

.aac is not recognized by the S9, and .mp4 is only viewable in the Video browser but not playable if it is music only. M4A/AAC support is absolutely nonexistent on the S9 except when in MP4 videos.

Well it was worth a shot. I've heard some people were successful that way but maybe they didn't know what they were talking about. Well, I'm glad it works on the J3 though! Awesome
