Default Info required for prospective purchase

Info required for prospective purchase please.

I listen to audio books has the player got mid track resume with auto play in other words on switch on will it play automatically from the position it was switched off at.

has it folder navigation

I have a Cowon A3 that will play downloaded films in .avi format without any conversion will the S9 do this or will films require converting.

would you say there are any drawbacks or problems with this model.

Regards to members, howdo

The S9 will playback avi films with a max resolution of 800x600 on the player itself, but will only output at a max resolution of 720x480 to a TV because it uses composite out.
All avi films that I've downloaded have played flawlessly without any conversion

Yeah well, not a world of difference to be honest, but yeah, no harm in waiting.

Aside from a memory card slot, what killer features does the J3 have over the S9?

don't forget that the s9 (as with almost every cowon player i can think of) has bookmarking, so in case auto-resume fails (never happened so far though) you can always load up a bookmarked position you've saved

some folks (myself included) have found that a corner of the screen may come up a little and appear un-level with the rest of the face of the casing. that said, nothing bad has ever happened to it, dust has not gotten under the screen, and the screen is still as scratch-proof as they advertise it. i've had my s9 for just about a year now (1 month left), and i've had a screen protector on it since about day 2 (same one). i've uploaded a photo to show how much abuse the screen protector has taken... while the unprotected part of the s9's screen is still spotless!

as with the others, if you can you should waiting for the J3 to come out. while it may not be cowon's own s9 replacement, it certainly is an upgrade and a pretty nifty looking one at that (i was never a fan of the curved back on the s9)

Thanks for your comments, I've had a look at the J3 style wise looks a little better to me, memory card option is handy but can't see me using the dictionary , looks like they will be doing it a 4, 8, and 16gb versions but no mention of a 32gb one. I would think when the do arrive in the UK they will be pricey and after a year or so prices drop dramatically. Probably the price of the S9 will drop when the J3 becomes available.

Don't really like screen protectors they tend to cut down on light transition and scratch real easy. I have always kept my players in a soft material pouch similar to an iphone cover. I think the S9 screen is quite sturdy when it comes to scratches etc.

Rang up advancedmp3players. the main agents for Cowon in the UK they did not have a date for delivery's of the J3

Well, to me the card slit is significant. The speaker might be handy for audiobooks as the quality usually isn't a big deal, there. But, there are trades, as there isn't a 32GB set to release (i.e. it's mentioned, but no word when).

If 16 GB is enough, I would wait. But, for the 32GB and the 2 big features are not a big deal, waiting for the 32GB might be a few months. In that case, myself, I would wait for the 64 as 32 GB micro SD cards will be very pricey, at least for the time being.

But, I'm mostly in agreement with JP as the new features aren't at all an improvement to the best qualities of the S9, which are the AMOLED screen and the sound quality.
