Default Cowon CE1 - Extreme Clarity, Deep Bass

On Friday March 26, 2010, Cowon released it's first IEM model. Cowon has made significant claims with their new product, both in the pictures and on their website. According to them (Korean Translation) "COWON CE1's actual sound in the earphones reaches the nozzle unit after dual front and sound damping filter applied in the former band-optimized soft earphones resulting in natural sound with enhanced bass. The design fits your ear very well."

The specifications of Cowon CE1 are as follows:
  • Driving Unit: 10mm
  • Impedance: 16 ohm
  • Rated Power: 3 mW
  • Max Power: 20 mW
  • Sensitivity: 101 dB (at 1 mW)
  • Frequency Range: 10 Hz to 22000 Hz
  • Cable Length: 1.2 meters
  • Plug: 3.5 mm

Other features of the CE1:
  • It is an all around canal earphone.
  • It also has open type design to be comfortable and not give strain to the ear, and also to isolate the sound.
  • There are the double damping filters to give soft and high quality sound.
  • At the front of the "housing", there is the "Air Hole" to give low sounds more power.
  • At the back of the "housing, there is the "Air Duct" to give the best of mid-high range, thus bringing the most natural sound.
The Cowon CE1 is currently priced at 29000 Korean Won, which is roughly about 25-30 USD. Seeing as how it is currently only available on Cowon's Korean website (and has been running out of stock), it seems Cowon is yet to come out with an international release. We're yet to find out if Cowon makes a mark in the audio market with it's own IEMs or not.

Credits to Seojuhwan for the translation.

I do need a new set of earbuds for everyday use, these could be good unless I can find something with super amazing audio quality that isn't too expensive ($100 >, for now). My Denon DN-HP700s are kinda big for everyday... Currently have an old set of Apple in-ear buds, sound terrible with the S9 cause it's too awesome. Never tried the earbuds the Cowon came with cause they looked cheap...

Lol i also thought its another player, till i scrolled down the pic and saw theres no player just earphones..

Vinny, If u want a good earphones with good bass, i recommend AKG K315. I bought the black model, but it comes also as red, and they have a very cool volume control on the cord itself. They cost about 140 NIS which is about 35$..
If u want something more expensive, theres the AKG K321 which costs around 50$.. and the AKG K330 which costs around 80$. All 3 has a very good design and fits well into the ear.

Another good review, JP. Just fix the headline (base -> bass)

Nice, I wonder how these will sound, and if they'll do them in black.

I agree, nice, but I got a bad feeling about SQ. And as far as the design, it is about as generic as possible. But hey, if they fit well and turn out to sound good then that is all that matters anyhow. I saw that the J3 marketing photos showed the same old crappy buds they have always sent us in the pictures but who knows. I would be nice if Cowon finally provided half decent phones with the players. But what do I care, I already have plenty of phones anyhow :-)

They do need to upgrade the quality of stock buds.. the only problem though is that they don't produce any high end ones. CE1 probably going to be decent at best. Let's hope they come out with even better phones in the future, and follow what creative does. They gave Ep830 away with the Zen X-fi.. It's a semi-high end IEM.

I was very happy with the default earphone that Cowon gave me in my A3. U cant forget that even tho Cowon is 1 of the best labels on audio, its still a DEFAULT EARPHONES, so u cant expect for something superb.

Honestly, the only reason i bought my small AKG's, is because the default earphones (the left 1) smashed into pieces by a heavyweight tool.
I was sad, but accidents happen. Besides, without this accident i wouldnt meet my new love (K315) qqq-:

There isn't a single review out on it yet, so it's hard to comment on that. But if you're too adventurous and excited as far as audio gear goes, give it a try and be the first one to review it

Sounds like something I could get my hands on for a trial considering it's quite cheap. Of course it all depends on whether or not it'll be made available in the US.

Currently my Klipsch Custom 3 is doing the main IEM duty, the Image S4 ($80) is doing gym duty as well as being a back-up if the braided cable on the Custom-3 rips. Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 VI is on phone duty and I'm searching for a store that has my beloved Super.Fi 5 Pro for a nice price.
