(I posted this in Head Fi as well, but there does not seem to be many Cowon S9 users there...)
Hi, I currently do not own an S9 (Just researching on it as it is something I'm thinking of buying eventually) as such can't test the problems I've been reading on it, so I'm hoping some of you owners of it could help me out. ![]() 1 - I read the m3u playlist support for the S9 is still wonky, and does not work for every m3u generator. I read that even with using Winamp, the S9 will not see more than 5 songs in the generated m3u playlist. (Via usb hard drive mode on Cowon S9, then generating the m3u with winamp while the songs are in the S9 already) Is this still true with the current firmware? This is really important to me as I want to keep it in MSC mode and use m3u for playlists. 2 - What is the maximum functioning playlist count for the S9 while it is in USB hard drive mode (Ie. # of m3u playlists in the root directory)? I read some conflicting counts on this (Anywhere from only 1 working playlist at a time (Due to Bug?) to an indefinite count). I also remember reading that they may get deleted out of nowhere if you switch between MTP and MSC modes? 3 - Are there any bugs in having playlist(s) with multiple file types being used at the same time (Ie. Flac, MP3, Ogg at the same time)? 4 - This is vague, but I have also been reading that playlists (regardless of whether the S9 is in MTP or MSC, and regardless of how the playlist was created) sometimes have missing songs. What causes this? 5 - Are songs in playlists when displayed by S9 arranged by how they are in the playlist or does the S9 default to the song's track # or names alphabetically? 6 - Not really a problem, just some general questions. When dragging songs into the S9, can they be organized in their own folders, or do they all have to be in some specific folder only? Do they (The actual files and the folders) all have to be in english, or can I use other languages for the folders such as Chinese and Korean? Also, how is the album art detected? (Specifically named jpg, embedded, something else?) Thanks. |

1. MSC - Playlist transfer is already supported. 5 Files limitation in 1 playlist? Never seen that. Maybe in really old FW.
2. Well there were different tests and the counts were really differing, depending from many factors. Maybe someone else can anywer this q, as I don't use so many playlists. 5. Usually if you open a playlist in S9 the songs are listed as in the playlist, but someone should correct me if I am wrong (as I usually create playlists for complete albums, so I am not limited in the album mode and can play multiple albums after each other. 6. Excepting the System Folder (and maybe the dictionary folder) you may place your songs everywhere (S9 will find them), but I would recommend to place them all in your Music folder using subfolders for Artists/Albums so that using your s9 in folder browsing mode you may find your songs easier. |

![]() 1 -> Perhaps it was from an old FW, although it would still be bad if there was some limitation, like under 500 songs per playlist or something... Do all m3u playlists work, or do only certain m3u's from certain programs work? (Actually, I can't think of any other program besides Winamp...) 2 -> If you use MSC mode, could you tell me how many you use that are functioning properly? 6 -> The file name for the folders/files won't matter right? (For the English firmware for S9, could you still name folders/files in Korean or Chinese for example?) And, if you use album art, do you know how they are detected when in MSC? Thanks |
