Being nowhere as technologically competent as others here, I apologise for this post in advance. . .
I have a number of different CD compilations stored on an external hard drive. Using Windows Explorer, I transferred each separate folder of numbered/named MP3 tracks to the S9 and popped them into the 'music' directory. We took the S9 on holiday with us expecting to open the music directory, scroll through to whichever folder we wanted, and then play the tracks in that folder. Not a chance. For some reason, the S9 has scattered the tracks all over the place. There are no individually named folders showing so no way of even beginning to sort out what we'd like to hear. Question: were we wrong to import our files via Windows Explorer? If we'd used the JetAudio software instead, would that have done as we were expecting? I guess I'll now have to delete everything off the S9 "music" directory and start again. . . except I don't know what it is I've done wrong in the first place. . . ![]() Help mucho appreciated! |

I think the problem is that you didn't create individual folders on your S9 and then paste the songs into those folders. Rather you just told Windows Explorer "put these files on this device".
If your files are ID3 tagged, MediaMonkey or other software can sort it all out for you. Otherwise, I think Explorer would work just fine as long as you're more careful where you're pasting. I can't speak for JetAudio as I never used the darn thing.

You must have used the ID3 Tag method of browsing rather than the Folder method...
Main Menu > Music > Library > Folders > Music > All your folders should be there...

![]() Gregg, like you, I have my music in separate folders. However, I drop all the folders in a "Music" folder in the root directory and browse by folder as opposed to browsing by artists, albums, songs, genre, etc. I also have a folder labeled "Podcasts" in the root directory and just create separate folders within it for my favorite podcasts. (I'm not into using Podcast Ready and having podcasts automatically sync to the player. ) Last edited by DAPmagic; 11-21-2009 at 11:38.. |

Wow. Gosh! Er. . .
All right: inadequate thanks to everyone for speeding to the rescue! I feel such a numpty but then. . . I am. I've stripped out the 'folders' I shipped wholesale into the S9 via Windows Explorer and will now try again, following doniago's generous advice (and no, I didn't paste in the individual tracks: doh!!!) Thanks, too, to Dalmane and DAPMagic because that kind of info really, really helps -- I'm actually beginning to understand things (at last!) Best wishes to you all and thank you again for such a speedy response: drinks are on me (well, virtual ones, anyway. . .) ![]() |
