Default Battery Says It's Full, But Player Keeps Dying

Battery life has been amazing so far since I bought my S9. However, while I was out biking today, the player turned off for no apparent reason. I turned it back on, it played music again, and all was well for about a minute, at which point it turned off again. So I turned it back on AGAIN, looked at the battery indicator, and it said it was full (which seems right, since Ive only used it for 20 minutes since I last charged it completely). But after a minute, it turned off again. I was looking at the screen this time, and it said "Low Battery" when it turned off.

The screen is set to blank after 20 seconds. I always set the player to "Hold" while I'm biking, since I use an iPod Touch armband and the screen can be touched accidentally all the time. I leave the top buttons active so I can adjust volume, pause/play and select tracks while I ride. When the player is paused, it turns off automatically after 60 seconds in case I forget to turn it off. I never use it to play Flash apps, videos or radio. I only use it for my FLAC and MP3 files. So I'm not sure why this is happening.

I'm trying to charge it again, and it's been saying "Charging..." for over 20 minutes, so it's possible the battery indicator was wrong, but I don't understand how 20 minutes of listening to music would've killed it in the first place.

Might the battery's charge controller be defective? Is there a way to reset it? I've had this happen with laptop and netbook batteries before.

give it another try after you recharge the battery completely this time around...pretty weird though!

maybe the cable wasn't completely seated in either the S9 or your computer while charging? that's happened to me with other players and caused similar issues...

Did you do something to the S9 the last couple of days maybe change the Firmware? I had my S9 turn of with early firmware think it was 1.08 or 2.08 but it stoped after downgrading. Think you should investigate some more and try to soft reset and change firmware( hope it has enough juice for fw update!)
edit: start with what number5toad suggested, if it dies during fw update your in even more trouble.

I haven't made any changes at all since upgrading to firmware 2.30 way back when I bought it months ago. I use Claw's UI, so the player just starts playing automatically when I turn it on and randomly plays all the tracks that are stored in there. I almost never use the interface at all, I just turn it on, ride my bike, and turn it off when I'm done. Sometimes I adjust the volume, sometimes I skip a track, and sometimes I pause it to talk to someone. That's the extent of my interaction with this device. I almost regret spending so much money on a fancy schmancy media player when my use is so limited But I really wanted the amazing sound quality.

It still says "Charging...", so I guess the battery indicator was just wrong. I plugged it directly into the back of the computer this time instead of my keyboard's USB port. Hopefully the power output is stronger there and the plug is more firmly seated. Once it's fully charged, I'll format the system, upgrade to firmware 2.41 and re-install the latest Claw's UI. Hopefully that will solve any issues.

Ok let us know how it works out, and i also ride bike but on the road, so i know that you don't want fancy pancy UI but "blind" usability! Me too hope someone will make one soon!

a lot of people ask why their S9 turns off after they pause their music..
this seems different. it might be defective.

whelp, after a full charge, a format and a new firmware (2.41), everything seems to be working perfectly again. I was able to listen to my S9 all day today, until I got a vicious flat on my bike and almost fell off. Then I got to listen to it for a couple more hours while I walked the bike back to my truck. So all is well... with my S9 anyways. I have a few choice thoughts for the jerk who threw down a beer bottle in the middle of a bike trail.
