I was a very satisfied D2 Fan, and I have to say other than either a little
1) hearing loss (ha ha) I am a reformed *Speaker Whore* 2) spoiling due to my Auzen X-Meridian Soundcard modded with TI Burr-Brown OPA627AU OP-Amps and the 120+ dB SNR that it puts out that I got *spoiled* by or 3) the somewhat Quietishness of the TI Da Vinci Chipset in the O2PMP I am now a happy convert to the All + Ways of the O2. I actually like the menu layout, the browser hands down beats the D2 which I had trouble with the entire time I owned it, and I like the Host feature for the SD cards. About that, when I finally get my new Print Engine from Epson (I'm saving up for a 3800) and then a digital camera (the film stuff is covered) the SD Card Host will be nice in the field as it will allow me to use the O2PMP as a "digital film bucket" and shuffle off my SDHC card data to the O2 then blank the card and shoot some more in the field. I did NOT expect this feature and after deciding against the A3 for sound quality reasons (I read that the O2PMP sounded somewhat superior to the A3 with FLAC and MP3, and that the A3 was realllly gooood but best for video nuts, which, coupled with my percieved discomfort at the (un)joystick (i hated the experience with my sister's creative zen) made it a thumbs down for the A3 and a thumbs up for the O2. The SDHC Host is Icing on the Cake for Moi. The Browser is neato. You can ACTUALLY DELETE files ON the device. The absence of that feature PISSED ME OFF on the D2. It was a major TURN OFF (though I see it as a "safety feature" as well as a feature and NOT a flaw) for me. Some things I wish were different: 1) better battery life, but *cough* I knew 18 hours was more than my ears could comfortably take in a sitting going into the purchase. 2) better split screen / ability to toggle main screen size while "peeking" at contents of SD(HC) cards or Favorites List to be the "bigger" window. 3) a better memory (in my skull) to remember the plethora of new functionality icons. (I'm doing fairly good with the main icons now though after about a week)... Just wanted to say HELLO to all you iAUDIOPHILES out there, and hello from California!!! |

Hi FLACvest, nice to meet you! Good to know you have also got an O2 and are enjoying it....for some obscure reason the general consensus around here is that the O2 isn't that good but personally I really like it.
Actually so far it's been the best player I have owned simply because it is so straightforward and has very little bull-shit associated with it.

Congrat for the purchase. Can you please comment on the portability of O2? I am kind of hesitating between D2+ and O2. Thanks

I got my O2 32GB a week ago and I'm very happy with its portability. As a matter of fact I'm very happy with the actual player as it does nicely all it is supposed to do. Audio quality is 10, it works like a charm with my xvid files and the screen is big and crisp enough to enjoy any 2 hours movie and longer. Folder browsing is the way to go for me, the SDHC card slot is a blessing and I got used to the user interface in a couple of hours. The O2 still has some flaws that should be fixed, but what is perfect anyway? ![]() |

Did any of guys who just recently got your cowon o2s get it from amazon.com? because the white 32gb models are only $204.99 which is much cheaper than what I got my black 32gb O2 for which was $289.99

In fact I was a cheapskate... I bought a Factory Refurb. Updated the Firmware to 1.25 which displays as 1.25C and Off I go!
The looks on the refurb were perfect: no scratches on shell OR glass. Perfect. I'm assuming it was stripped and "remanufactured". It came from the JetMall store on Amazon.com in the USA. As for Portability it literally disappears into any medium sized shirt pocket (you know the kind pocket protectors go in) and as for a jacket pocket, purely invisible... Pants pockets... Very doable with the baggier jeans these days. If you Need a longer cord for your Headphones or Earphones or IEM's you can always get that extension cable from Jays... OH and the O2 is LIGHT as a FEATHER. Lighter than my iPhone i believe or almost so. AND it sure does SOUND better. The interface is great, and as I said before the Host feature and Browser with copy/paste/delete features for the files seal the deal for me. There is one niggle I have: the double pop between tracks as they load. But that's just like... hum... like a jukebox changing 45's... No big deal considering the sound quality!!! I really love My O2PMP and feel much stronger sense of ownership for it than I ever did for my D2. It's "HOME" for Moi. I dig the Leather Case from COWON with the embroidered strip and the neat magnetic angled easel thingamabob. It's a slick and secure case that looks good. Definitely Minimalist without being Austere or Ascetic on Features. A Solid Hit in my Playbook. Sorry if my review is so Emphatic. LOLZ... |

portability- D2+
versatility- O2 but that doesnt mean that the o2 doesnt fit fine in the pocket id have to disagree with light as a feather, even with size ratio...if the s9 was as large as the o2, then it would still weigh considerably less, but it has no speaker, a thinner screen, less hardware, etc...so it makes sense...either way, i found the O2 to be quite heavy, especially compared to its most comparable (screen size, speaker, sd slot, video and audio playback) counterpart the Archos 605 Flash

Sometimes I wonder what on earth is in the O2 for it to be that heavy and thick. How can the speaker, SD card slot and flash memory make it thick. I'm not complaining, I like the thickness, I'm just wondering......

All that stuff adds up. Plus the oled is a thinner lighter screen.

I _finally_ recieved (I know, you're all barfing from looking at my sig right now thinking I have major toy problems or MPD syndrome with my preferences on sound rendering) a pair of Sleek Audio SA-6 IEMs to play with.
Wow, talk about a weird experience to cap off a great day. So many little configurable pieces. Just like Linux and its kernel modules... Mix and Match... In the end I found a recipe that rivals my joy experienced with the Phonak Audeo PFE 122's for their discerning highs and whisperingly elastic bass, though the bass profile is WAY different on the SA-6's... Also the joy found from sheer BASSology (but not as round, bouncy or warm... I swear they melt a nickel's worth of pennies down for enough copper for the insides of a pair of v-moda bass freqs) that sounds like a ported truck bass cabinet... in a way... Here's the config I settled on: wired, not wireless (which is a cool option to have available!), the Treble ++ tips, capped with Phonak Audeo Comply Foam Medium Tips, not the REALLY painful default dual flange thingies that come with the Sleek's (I learned to hate flanges from my etymotics). As for the bass port cap: I chose a choice between the + (bassiest) and the absence (yikes! nude!) of a bass cap as it had more hum and BIGger (not more kick) sound in the bottom end of the spectrum. But in the end I thought: why expose (No pun intended!) the delicate contacts inside to the elements? so I fiddled with the bass + caps and the filters wedged inside them just wiggle right out if you pry them out: so I chose to mod them to open-air unfiltered porting, albeit more protected than completely bare. They now have QUITE a hefty bit of authority in the punch and kick drum department and so much more of an articulate hum than when left totally "nude" or wide open. I'm a happy camper. My O2PMP settings are: EQ: POP, BBE: 10, Mach 3 Bass: 2, MPEnhance: ON, 3DStereo: 4 Firmware : USA 1.25C I think I've found a match made in bliss. I was planning on amping my O2PMP with a HeadRoom Total AirHead, but I'm now getting enough volume due to lowered impedance in the Sleek SA-6 IEM's to *turn down* the volume from 50 or 45 to something more _reasonable_.... Go figure. Just thought I'd share my lil piece of heaven with you. I'm having a tough time going to bed my ears are having so much gosh-darned fun!!! Best to ya! |
