No.
Did something interrupt the S9 while the firmware was upgrading?

No nothing at all, have done an upgrade before with no problems. Just wont turn on now and windows just thinks it a usb device and cant find drivers for it, nothing is coming up on the screen either

What are the odds that 2 new S9 have the same problem? I don't know but could it be a problem with your Pc? For the record i don't say that you screwed up. Which windows do you have? And did you remove the device safely after FW upgrade?

Try charging it with the AC Adapter and see what happens...

Also you could try pressing the Reset...Maybe you some how put the S9 in a type of Recovery Mode...Did you press and hold any of the button by accident when turning it on?

I am always pressing a button by mistake when trying to so something, like clean the finger prints off the screen...

apparently if you press and hold play/pause while turning the player on it enters some kind of recovery mode, but i've never tried this in case it mucks up my player. anyway, you could have done that accidentaly?

They player's f*cked if you don't use safe hardware removal. IE, none of my content showed up when I didn't use safe hardware removal...

If you didn't do that, it's technically your fault since you didn't follow the instructions.

Default 2.09 bad for s9

just got my s9 last night. worked fine until i noticed the restart problem. so i decided to upgrade from 2.08 to 2.09 in the morning. kapow, the s9 rebooted after the successful upgrade, but now all of my media files are gone. not erased, but not recognized at all. plugged the usb back in to see if the files were still there. sure enough, they were. ejected the s9 and restarted the thing. alas, same results. nothing in the folders at all. the player did not recognize the files, a bunch of korean text did appear in the playlist and the player would freeze when i tried to open it. tried to reinstall 2.08, but it did not restore the device. acll the vendor and is having a replacement sent to me overnight.

i love this device and am willing to give it one more try. am i doing something wrong?

did i mention i am using an imac with os 10.4?

I talked to a guy over at ABI who had almost the exact same problem. After nothing we tried worked I finally got him to RMA it. It sounds like a battery problem but he didn't have a AC charger.

Me either, if that was the case you would be able to follow the trail of dead players to find me. The S9 may be different, but this would be happening to 2 out of three users if it was.

Got my s9 working in the end, just pressed the reset button and the firmware upgrade completed (didnt have a pin on me at the time to try it then!)
One little problem i have with it still is the volume down button, if im using it for a while i the volume down button just stops working or will just turn it down one number, seems to be getting cofused when i go into a menu and it works ok as a scroll button but then wont work on the volume when i go back out of the menu, sometimes it starts working again sometimes not. Not a really big deal though, anyone else notice this problem?

I used to get that a lot with older firmware but that was for the prev/next track buttons. Sometimes it'd work, sometimes (most of the time) it wouldn't. Don't get it anymore though after going to 2.09.

Long shot but might be worth trying a UCI in case something slightly screwed up in the transfer of the UI files.
