Default How To Update Firmware For the New Cowon owners

There may be some new people to Cowon or you may know some friends that have finally made the jump from the iPod world. If they are not sure how to update their firmware you can send them this info on how to do it.

I have a question, should I update directly to version 2.10 or should I update by gradually installing the older firmware versions until I'm up to date?

My S9 came with some crazy old version like 2.02 or something like that..
To be safe, I updated to 2.09, then to 2.10.

Mine is working perfectly fine.

I think its ok to go straight to 2.10 (or 1.20 if you like). The reason some of us had issues on update was because we had 2.10 beta ... so when firmware upgrade to 2.10 final happened, the update utility didn't completely update itself (didn't notice version change). So we had to go back to 2.09 and reflash. If you never installed 2.10b, then going straight to 2.10 final should be ok.

Are there firmware updates for iPods?

Or, does Apple just produce a "next generation" model?

Just curious.

I am pretty sure that there are firmware updates for Ipods. There are enough bugs to fix

Oh yeah, there are firmware updates for iPod/iPhones. Apple isn't generous with their firmware updates like Cowon, Samsung or other companies. They tend to release the product, maybe make 1-2 firmware updates, then introduce the next generation product. That is pretty crappy because within a year (maybe less) your device is already outdated. I like what Microsoft does with the Zune firmware, they release new players, and the older players get the new features also. (Attention Apple, take note of what Microsoft does!)

And if you are an ipod touch owner, Apple will charge you from $10 to $25 for those updates.

I have my S9, but I'm waiting to jailbreak the Touch. Screw the update from Apple.

Edit: The jailbreak is here, so wish me luck!!!

The latest FW is 2.30, and the thread about that FW is directly below this topic...

quick question, the should the files in the zip file be extracted before placing them in the cowon s9 or can i just enter into the zip file and drag and drop it onto the s9? the video seemed to show the latter of what i just said, but does that mean the files had already been extracted?

Just download the zip file, open it and put the included files in your S9's root directory (where the Music, Pictures,... folders are).

I'm a bit confused here. I just got my S9 with a 2.9 version on it. I wanted to upgrade it to 3.30 beta so I can use the CLAW UI (I tried to install without updating first, but it didn't work). So I downloaded the firmware using powerarchive and extracted the files to the root menu in the S9. I restarted the S9 as indicated in the video, but nothing happens and S9 doesn't update.

What should I do? I can't find anything on this in the forums..

If it helps....I an in the US and got the S9 through amazon...(not sure if there is a difference between korean and US firmware...)
