Hi all,
I've been reading these threads for a few weeks now, until yesterday when I finally could unwrap the D2 (16gb) given to me as a present by my future wife ![]() I played with it a bit, and fixed most of the issues I had with it by now. I'm yet to properly use it (tomorrow I'm off shopping around town, and the D2 shall be my squishy companion), and will use the E2Cs until a mate of mine returns from Sweden with a pair of Q-Jays (present from my in-laws, how brilliant is that). But in order to actually take advantage of all this brilliance, I planned to reencode my CDs into FLAC. I plan to buy several SDHC cards to have my collection with me at all times. I tried some encoded flacs I did the other day, and whilst the player sees the files, once started, they don't play and are skipped until a suitable file is found for playback. I used EAC with the provided FLAC files to encode CDs, and set it to high quality at 1024kbps. It plays fine on the PC obviously, but not on the player. Since it takes forever to load files unto it, I wanted to know the community's feedback - whilst I play around on my end with various bitrates as well. Many cheers to you people!

the bitrate settings in EAC don't mean anything for flac, they are there just for MP3 encodings.
I don't know if you are using the Flac or its variant Flake, but the D2 only supports upto Level 8 encodindgs with flac. It should play fine. If you still have trouple then try as an expereriment, removing all tags from a flac file and adding it in the root of the music folder. If it still does'nt play then you may have a faulty D2. |

Just make sure the only entry in the Tag Field for your FLAC files are FLAC (FLAC).
If there is something like FLAC (FLAC) ID3v2.3 (ID3v2.3) in the Tag Field your FLAC files will give you problems/not play. You can use a program like Mp3tag to check...It is free and easy to use... Good luck and have fun with your D2...

Thanks guys for the reply.
After playing about with EAC, nothing really worked (FLAC files of course). The tags are proper flac tags, and EAC has the tagging set to .3, not .4. I found some flac files I could test and those ones did work indeed. Ultimately I would have to rip to wav and convert them with another program. ...good thing I only finished the A- CDs... imagine I went up to Z ![]()

Try using Media Monkey to rip a music CD to FLAC and see what happens...You could try JetAudio too...
You do have EAC setup like this: ![]() Online guide Hope this helps...I ripped all my Music to FLAC using MM and JetAudio and have no problems converting them to the Audio Format I want...and them playing on the D2... EDIT: I also used this thread for help. Post numbers 3 & 4.

Cheers Dalmane,
Yes, the EAC settings look like that. I suppose I'll leave EAC for mp3, and use mm for the flac ripping. Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated, hopefully I'll be able to return the favor soon. Oh, and happy christmas to everyone
