It's in this subforum (D2 Rockbox) and it's stickied, so it's currently right above this post.

Hi everyone. First of all, I have not much experience in Linux world. Plus, sorry if I make some mistakes but my language is Spanish.
I tried to install Rockbox but I wasn't able to. I downloaded Rockbox sources via SVN. I created a folder and executed ../tools/configured, but arm-elf-gcc wasn't found (path was previously changed adding /usr/local/arm-elf/bin just in case, anyway that folder doesn't exist). I don't know how to install the arm-elf-gcc . Reading the step 2b of http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie.../CrossCompiler : Manual Build. I click on the label download from arm-elf and gcc. It takes me to http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gcc/, but there I have no idea about what to do with all the files in the folders. I read about using SVN to download it, but i didn't know if it meant to the gcc or the arm-elf-gcc, because I think they are not the same, right??? Could you help me??? Do you really want to build Rockbox? Andiator very generously hosts pre-patched binaries for the most common 2.xx and 3.xx firmware versions. The latest version can be found here:
ftp://andiators.homeip.net/D2 rockbox/2008.10.14 rev18811/ I guess you may need to build it if you are running 1.xx or 4.xx (does it even work on the DAB D2s, not sure). If I recall correctly, you can get arm-elf-gcc from: http://download.rockbox.org/cross-gcc/ |

Maybe I was blind or did not search properly but I have always thought, rockboxing on the D2 is still complicated - with these 3 fies *incl. howto it is definately not! Anyway I faced some problems unpacking the zip-archive with Linux. Always some errors during rb boot. Then I decided to try unzipping with winrar in my virtual-XP (but doing file transfer using linux) and this worked. And rb is crashing from time to time,still able to navigate but no music output..* I also hope the "Error accessing playlist control file" error is normal in this state of the D2 port. I guess I have to read a bit more about it, just wanted to articulate my thanks for the hint how to load rb on the D2.btw. gapless is great!*

@BioMarco
Yes the "Error accessing playlist control file" message is normal. It threw me too when I first started using RB but shotofadds told me it was to be expected. However, I can't recall having too many RB lockups. I haven't used the latest version. In fact, I have used RB for a couple of months so perhaps this is something new. |

If you still want to set up a cross compiler, the tools/rockboxdev.sh script will download and set everything up for you (it's even mentioned on the CrossCompiler wiki page linked earlier in this thread).
Lockups are possible, but they're pretty rare in my experience (they're usually due to the dodgy filesystem driver feeding duff data into the audio decoders). I'm working on improving the driver, but it's taking rather longer than I expected... ![]() I'm afraid the "Error accessing playlist control file" message isn't going to go away any time soon, since Rockbox expects disk write access to be available. btw. I'm still here - just been a bit busy the last few weeks. |

I forgot to mention it, I ran rockboxdev.sh succesfully, it created /usr/local/arm-elf folder. Inside there was only two folders, namely, info and share but no trace of bin. That's why the cross-compiler wasn't found.
