Default firmware

Hello,

My first post....
I've just recently purchased an iAudio X5L (extended battery life apparently) on eBay.
I'd heard of Rockbox so i installed that, but somehow didn't work well enough for me.
So, i in fact want to reinstall the old firmware. I googled firmware for X5 and came to this page
http://www.cowonamerica.com/download...o_x5_jsfw.html

It looks like there are two working firmwares? One for ALL iAudios and the other specific for X5's. The X5 download brings me to error page, so i downloaded the other (JetShell) just in case, but before i installed it i wanted to check with the forum to get some advice.

thank you in advance

Jetshell's an application for Windows, it's not firmware.

I think this will work for you- http://www.cowonglobal.com/download/..._fw(2.10E).zip

Hi Doniago,

Thanks for that. Yes, i found out that JetShell isn't firmware too
Is 2.10 the latest stable firmware release?
I noticed a thread for 2.11.

I wondered too whether there was any other firmware besides Rockbox?
The iAudio default firmware is fine - it pretty much does what i need it to; except in quite an essential respect i feel. Settings doesn't allow me to configure if and when the backlight should turn off. That has got to be a good power-saving feature. It also means at night i can play music without having the player light up the room and being 'on' after i' m asleep and the player has stopped.

Regards,

livingdaylight

I don't actually know what the latest firmware release is, but maybe someone else will chime in with that.

AFAIK the only alternative firmware for the X5 is Rockbox, yes. But IIRC the OF does allow you to set a backlight time...I haven't had an X5 in months now though, can't recall where in the menus the setting would be.

To set the backlight time, do the following:

1. push (directly) down on the "joystick".
2. on the following screen, scroll down to 'Settings' and select it
3. on the following screen, scroll down to 'Display' and select it
4. on the following screen, scroll down to 'Backlight Time' and select it - the time (display) will turn from yellow to red
5. "toggle" up or down to change the time
6. exit

By the way, under the 'settings' menu, there's also a timer setting. Go into that submenu and there's a sleep timer setting that will shut the player completely off after a (user) set length of time.

Jose,

thank you for the tip. At first it didnt seem to work and then i took it out of the cradle and it did! So, unfortuanately, it only works when its off the cradle and so i still can't get the backlight to switch off when its in the cradle at home and at night.

Sleeper timer is also not shutting down while player is in the cradle and seems only to work when off the cradle,

Try a quick flick of the power switch? That usually toggles the LCD on/off.
