I think even tho its a D2 upgrade they should focus on the factors that make S9 and J3 great.

would you rather have an improved S9 or an Improved D2, think about. IMO, if cowon made something with a 4.3" screen with (hopefully) flash based memory, i would prolly skip right ove s9/j3 and develop for D3.

The idea behind the D2 was that it was so small so therefor an D3 shoulnt have a much bigger screen then 2.5.

Wghat you are describing is pretty much a Cowon O2 (which you actually can develop linux apps for though the firmware is supposed to suck last time I checked) The O2 was released at the sime time as the S9 for the crowd that wanted a more video centric player with bigger screen.

Mi wishes? I just got one:

A guy at the cowon software department that knows what hes doing and has some experience as dap user.

I mean, is it that difficult to make a good playlist manager, to allow cross-fade ( a must for electronic music lovers), to make big icons so you can use hem with the finger, big fonts so you can read the names of artists and songs, etc?

For gods sake, hire some guy from the Rockbox roaster or something like that and make Cowon the undisputed number one. Put somebody on the internet forums and listen to the people, really, is as simple as that... until that i jump off the boat. Been an user for almost ten years, since the birth of the old M3 - and my D2 will be always in my heart - but this is getting beyond ridiculous. Ten years and they havent improved their software a f**ing inch, wtf!?!

heh, glad you had fun with it.

I´ve been a lurker here since a year or so when i got into the rockbox thing for my D2. But, as i said, i´ve been a "cowonite" for a long time - i was probably one of the first ten people in Spain to own an M3. But seeing their business strategy along the years makes my sick, I mean, they make great, beautiful machines but they just seem blind when it comes to software and the user-friendly touch.

You´re gonna laugh at me but a few years ago i sent them a letter to Korea offering my services as a UI consultant - and i dont know shit about programming but at least i know what the dap user feels and needs. It was so sad to see them losing a great chance to be the reference brand in DAPs that i couldnt help but to step in.

Anyways, im just feed up with this bullshit. Im gonna buy a Sansa Fuze or some shit like that, rockbox it and so be it. If some day they grow up and start to make complete machines ( hard & soft) i will be the first to buy them - i love their style, untill that moment im out...

Its been a good ride Cowon, see you another time

I really don't want to see too much changed from my D2+. Bumping the memory up from 16GB to 32 would be nice. Definitely keep the standard SD card instead of switching to the micro version (I don't want to have to buy any more damn cards). Keep the same LED screen, amoled has way too much glare. I guess if I had only one request it would be gapless playback. I think they only kept this from the D2/D2+ players so they could sell more S9's. I had a 32GB J3 when they first came out. It wasn't the be all, end all player reviews were calling it. I sent it back. I prefer my D2+. I just want gapless playback, that's all.

I am not so experienced as most of you on this stuff, what features and 133t ideas and designs, but:

Just continuing to MAKE such a product is first on my list.

Second, ok, a little thinner, but not too thin, the D2 is solid and hard to snap in half/break. I would make it where the screen is less likely to crack/break, that would be nice.

Not having to preconvert videos on jetaudio or what have you and instead the player does it on the fly would be nice.

Top notch sound quality with maximum file format support continued. Don't abandon OGG, FLAC, APE, and so forth and include AAC, same for videos.

Have more non screen controller buttons as optional instead of using the 3x3 screen if a person wants.

A design that would allow lots of modification, such as being flash based, or work with rockbox devs and make it RB based right out of the box? Possible?

A slightly bigger screen, but only 1/2" give or take, I don't want a big device, if I do, I'd get the O2 or something.

AMOLED

Line out standard connector, vid out standard connector.

Micro SD compatible, along with SD.

Yet even longer battery life. Easy replacement of battery for a decent price.

Better file/music/video browser with less clicks necessary.

Audible click sound optional.

Included head gear much better quality out of the box.

Gesture sensitive option, turned on and off by a click of a button.

Easy to replace broken screen and available screens for a good price.

Rubberized housing that can handle a drop with screen that, as I say, won't break so easily!

Available dock products.

Accessories included with out of box purchase and guaranteed availability of battery, screen, and accessories for 4 years past OEL date.

Cross shipment replacement policy if there already is none.

Roomate's idea: preplay feature that goes through first second if each track until you hear what you want to play. Interesting idea, not one I need, but an idea.

Stylus docking place and better kick stand execution.

Cowon's own headphone line especial for players of excellent quality. Include earbuds along with IEMs because sometimes you need to hear what is going on outside your cans.

Double USB connector cord for faster charging, used optionally?

USB 3.0?

3x4 screen control (on wider screen)?

I am sure there are lots of other things.

Most important: Keep making a D2 like player, keep selling it, don't abandon it for only all bigger players, and don't make it too thin to where it can break or sacrifice battery service time.

200hr battery life?!

think if you add one of these to your players electric circuit you well get what you want

D2 50 hours is way more than any need,I can't imagine why 200 can be needed.

D2 is a nice player but a dead end, like the Sansa Fuze. It's a good audio player with some worthless video features tacked on (worthless because of format conversions needed etc). Any portable video these days should be able to handle all formats, which means a faster CPU at which point they may as well run Android or equivalent. So then you have the new Archos tablets. The d3 suggestions here are basically for an Archos 28 or 32 with a microsdhc slot, or full sized sdxc if that format ever gets off the ground. Then it will be able to run rockbox as an android app...

Me, I'd give up on video basically entirely, and make a back-to-basics, G3-like player with a micro sdhc slot, newer codecs, Rockbox, and 40 hours battery life on an AA like the old G3.
