"That Norwegian Guy..."
|
Hi,
I recently threw my old PC away and bought me a new MacBook... After a while I noticed that the D2's battery was getting low... All went fine when I plugged it in, but when I unplugged it and turned it on... It was then I noticed... It couldn't find the root files! So, I can use the SD-card as an external root folder but I would prefer to be able to put files directly onto the D2!! So do any of you guys got a solution? Sorry, for my English ![]() Henning Christensen

are you in MTP? if so, you need to switch it to MSC. that's the only problem i can see besides what dominic asked if its bricked.
i ALWAYS have mines on MSC so i can use it interchangeably between my PC Windows XP and my powerbook os10.4 Tiger. and have absolutely NO problems. but yeah, always when using Macs, use MSC...and if that doesn't work. maybe more info from you will help.

Okay, i would guess that would work... But how do I do it in F.3.54?!! It seems like they've deleted the spot where you can change the USB input type....

3.XX is UMS(MSC) only...so mtp isn't the prob in that case.
I'm a little bit confused by your problem to tell you the truth. 1. Is your D2 bricked? if not then: 2. what can you see in the D2 drive after you connect it to your macbook? 3. can you transfer to the D2 drive?

O.K, let's see if I can get this straight before I go to work...
![]() 1. When I turn the player on, everything seems normal.. Theme, background and all that is there.. Except for when I try to access any of the music, video, etc, folders.. This is what happens when I press on one of these buttons: Music: The screen goes black and then the D2 turns it self of after a minute or two.. Video: It only says "No Video" even tough I got several folders with Scrubs, Family Guy, etc! Picture: No pictures... Even tough I got a lot of pictures! Text: Nothing, nada... Empty.. Dictionary: It works!!! For some reason, it actually works! FM-Radio & Record: Both works... Utilities: Calculator works, Notepad works, Flashplayer... Well, I got many flash files (all filed under individual folders), but nothing shows up.. EQ: Still the same as before.. Display: -ll- Well, all the settings are the same as before! ![]() Information: Total space: 3811 MB Free space: 86 MB Witch is right... 2. When I plug it in my Mac, all the folders, files and so shows and everything seems okay! ![]() ..... Was this for any help? ![]() Carpe Diem HC

i once had "no video" "no music" etc...that was after transferring BIG files between 2 powerbooks and a pc. somehow it corrupted my D2. even though it showed that it was 3/4th full in the info section on D2 nothing was showing up. soft/hard reset did nothing.
what i did was just re-installed same firmware i was using then (3.51 i think) which wiped out everything (that was loaded/saved) and re-transfer everything bits at a time. never ever transfer BIG files. worked well. that was the only time i ever had problem with my D2. oh, i currently use 3.54 and like what dominic said...it is MSC (UMS) so i guess that rules out if you had it in MTP mode. and 3.54 has no option of MTP anyways...just MSC. so before you do anything else like find a windows pc and try to use the recovery tool (tcctool or whatever) try to do what i did and reinstall whatever firmware you want. just make sure to make a backup of your files since it shows up on your mac. and add small files at a time after FW is done. like maybe one album and one video or several pictures, etc just to check if it shows up. other than that...when you said you threw your old pc away you meant that it is now sitting and collecting dust somewhere in your home...cause you have to find a windows pc to use tcctool. unless you have windows installed on your macbook via virtual pc or bootcamp.

I am currently having the same exact problem as the OP. The only thing I can add is that I am using 2.51. Also when I connect it to my macbook the files show up, but when I am at work and connect it to my PC, there are no files, and no root directory. When my D2 is disconnected there is "no music" under the music icon, and it freezes when I try click on other icons. This problem only occurs when I connect it to my mac. If I use my D2 and only connect it to my PC, everything is ok.
Do I need to use MSC instead of MTP? I am not sure what that means, but I will try 3.54 this time to see if that helps. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated ![]() |

MACīs donīt support the MTP protocol. Yes, you should use MSC.
