ok i'm on 2.54 now.

i just realised though that the resolution is so poor that only main roads are visible, is it possible to make street names visible too and increase the overall quality?

someone mentioned something about zooming in and larger file dimensions...can the .jpegs not be 320x240?

With flashmaps 1.0 there is no zoom function yet and the image tiles have to be 160x120. However, the resolution of the tiles doesn't have anything to to with the quality of the map. The only thing that matters is the size of the original image. This image will be displayed on the D2 1:1 (100%).
I'm working on a zoom function and I will also check if the tiles can be larger. But the purpose of larger tiles is just to reduce the overall number of files because of the file limit.

hmm i tried Horatius's google map of Braunschweig, Germany and the resolution is a lot higher than the melbourne one you made fishfutter, it looks a lot closer in (1:1?).

the map is huge and a lot clearer, i can easily read the street names, this is what i'm after. any chance of a higher quality remake fishfutter, as well as making it 5000x5000 in total (if that is the maximum?)?

well the maximum it only limited to my RAM memory ^^
and I wanted to buy some this week but I didn't get to the shops yet.
I'll try to make a new one !

the reason why the melbourne map is not 1:1 is cause its a much bigger city ^^

looking at the google maps site, say this is the zoom bar...

Code:
-
-
-
- * the zoom needs to be placed here for street names to show.

a smaller map with readable street names is better, thanks fish.
if i knew how to copy the map from google maps, i'd give it a try.

i got the map from google thanks to Chrieg's video tutorial, everything was going great. i hit Generate Images in SplitImage, only for the following error to come up when i tried to save...

"Not enough storage is available to process this command."

i assume this is the RAM problem, mentioned? i had the original map saved as .jpeg (17.8MB) 5000x5000 pixels, is that too large to process or is there some other reason? or a preference setting in SplitImage that needs changing, perhaps image compression?

what am i doing wrong? i have 2GB of RAM, is that not enough??

EDIT: just tried starting with a map of 4000x4000 pixels, now when i try to generate images SplitImage gives me an error saying "JPEG Error #36."

HELP!

2GB RAM ??? I only have 1GB RAM and yesterday I created a 5000x5000 map and it worked ?!?!?! but today I get the same problem "Not enough storage is available to process this command." so what the hell is going on ? I thought it was a RAM problem ?

i got it to work, did you make sure that you click edit>edit using dialog...>processor>create columns and rows of specific size.
input 160 for width and 120 for height.
click ok.
generate images then worked on my 5000x5000 image.

my only problem now is i don't know what i'm meant to put in the mapconfig file?
how do i know how many rows and cols there are meant to be?
also how do i pinpoint the starting point?

If the first file is called map0.jpg the starting point is 0, if it's map1.jpg it's 1 etc.
You can see how many rows and columns there are in Splitimage. After entering 160 and 120 for width and height on the processor tab, click "Apply". Then switch to the "Edit Values"-tab. There you can see the number of rows and columns.

ok i entered the right numbers 42 rows and 42 columns for my 5000x5000 image, but all the images are positioned incorrectly, they're all there, but there not in the right places when viewing the .swf...

also i want my default location (home) to be the center of the google map, but when i go to take the screengrab and save, my pinpointed location is always in the top left hand corner near the zoom buttons...how can i make it so my home is center of the map after the screengrab?

shouldn't there be 32 columns instead of 42? (5000/160=31.25)

EDIT: still jumbled up...wtf!

if the original image is exactly 5000x5000 it should be 42 rows and 32 columns
