Did you try pressing the Record button again?

...as indicated in the manual?

There is some mysterious series of button pushes in the record mode that can cause this problem. Hold in the reset button for a second or so to get out of record mode.

When i click the reset button it just shuts offs and when i turn it on , record mode again.

If i click the record button it will record/stop.

Is there anyway to just reset it completely, making it 'fresh out of the box', i dotn care if all my music files will be deleted.

'Fresh out of the box' would require a reformat of the hard drive (JetShell does a good job with that) and reinstalling the firmware.

Yes. Wiping the hard drive and reloading the firmware will return your unit to step one as you got it out of the box. If this does not fix the problem, then I would suspect either a hardware problem or some software problem that resides in the unit's flash memory.

I have nearly the same problem...
When I turn on my x5 the recording mode appears. The problem is that i can`t go back to the main menu while pressing the joystick...when I do this long click my x5 immediately jumps back into the recording mode and I`m not able to go to the music folder for example.
If i press the record button nothing happens, I only can start/stop recording by pressing the joystick shortly...that`s sort of weird as well.

The only way to shut off the player is pressing reset...

I already tried to format the hard drive and reinstall the firmware but it didn`t solve my problem.

So does anyone of you know a solution to my problem?
