Default Sennheiser MX 550: any good?

Hi I want to upgrade earphones on my cowon D2 and was thinking about the Sennheiser MX 550 earphones. Any experience with them? Are they better than the stock phones that come with the D2?

I don't want large headphones and I'm not fond of in-ear earphones either.

I have been using Sennheiser px100 headphones and they are absolutely wonderful (very light, over the ear type, and they fold up nicely). I expect the MX550's are of similar quality. And yes you will see a HUGE difference from the stock headphones that come with the D2. The sound is rich and full and really takes advantage of the D2.

If you don't like the in ear phones I wouldn't get the MX550's because that is what those are.

The PX100's may be more what you are looking for

If you want them for while moving around I'd suggest the PMX100s, because PX100s don't stay on my head when I'm active, unless I stick a hat on top (the PMX100s have ear clips and a neck band, instead of a head band). Same great sound though.

Hmmm, I'm afraid I don't understand the terminology well. I though in-ear earphones would be like this:

Anyway, I don't want them to be like this and I don't want headphones either (I want compact stuff). That's how I thought MX550s would do well?

The PX100 and PMX 100 are about as small as you can get for non-in-ear phones .. the earpieces are about 2" diameter, and the whole thing weighs in at a couple of ounces. Go try some!

Don't worry Sniper, seems most people confuse the various headphone types. The MX550 are best described as an ear-bud or button style phone, while the ones you've illustrated above (Senn CX300?) are usually referred to as either IEMs (In Ear Monitors) or Canalphones.

I've used the MX450s in the past and was quite pleased with them, I presume the MX550s are similar.

Got the MX550 today! They feel so light in the ear compared to the standard Cowon earbuds that you barely notice them
