Default Firmware upgrade howto?

I know it's easy, but after a few months of not doing it, I tend to forget.
I think it would be cool to have a sticky with the basics of installing the Firmwares.

Thanks!

mate all you really need to do is just go to the cowon global website and it always has the instructions. with that said so its really annoying having it done that way and i prefer just a single file which is way easier

wot has this got to do with your petition?

Installing fw is not hard to remember:

1. Back up your data
2. install contents of folder 0 (unplug, turn on, plug in)
2. install contents of folder 1 (unplug, turn on, plug in)
2. install contents of folder 2 (unplug, turn on, enjoy)

So I said put it on the petition, ie make a formal request for a 1 file FW upgrade.

OH i see, it is a nice idea. Maybe something like the U3 which uses excutable firmware, which guides you through everything easily.

I will let you off and yep we cool

Over the years I have had several dozens of MP3 players, all with their own way of upgrading the device.
Some you had to hold this button(s) while restarting so you could get access to a 'recovery mode' disk, where you could upload a file you half had to unzip etc...

The D2's methode is waay easier, but I still tend to forget how to do it.
If it where my only device of the household to update it wouldn't be hard to remeber how to.
A one file update would be nice indeed.

Since we're at firmware upgrade on this topic it would be nice if someone would be able to post a method on how to install the dictionary after a firmware has been done (since like when installing the firmware, I tend to forget how installing this thing done).

A good point to add is that sometimes the D2 refuses to connect to the PC part way during an installation.

Holding the power button on for 20 seconds or so when the D2 is connected to the PC forces it to switch on so you can continue with the next part of the install.

^ Just inplug your USB cable

When doing firmware upgrades, try to unplug the USB cable on the side of the computer.
This way the small mini-USB port on your device has least chance of breaking or wearing down!
If a usb port on your pc breaks down they are easely replacable.
Also the mini usb cable is sold quite often on ebay, or electronic stores, so don't worry about the cable nor the USB port.

Worry about the player's mini USB port, by using ((un)plugging) it as little as possible!

Same should go for the power knob on the device. I'd worry more should that one break, then should my USB or cable break!

Ps: About the installation of the freedict. :
Just unpack the PowerDic (I know, it's a gay name) directory in the root of the player!

I find the images showing the upgrading procedure on cowonglobal.com really helpful...

It even shows how the screen supposed to be after unplugging and restarting the D2.
