I'm leaving to Singapore for a short trip. I decided to buy the Cowon A2. I have some last minute doubts before spending the cash.
I'd be happy if I could have the following points clarified. 1. My brother has an iPod Video (30G). I want to copy the videos via- Cowon's USB OTG. Are iPod video known to work with OTG? 2. His videos are 300x240 MPEG-4 with 300kpbs video quality. If I choose a resolution for video that is *NOT* Cowon's screen size resolution (or multiple) will that mean using more battery to scale the video realtime? Is it good for the battery in the long run to play such ackward (for Cowon) sized videos? 3. What is the format specifications (codec, resolution, fps) that produce the BEST battery life in A2? 4. Are Cowon A2 Batteries available in stores easily? I'm in India so I don't suppose I can ever get Cowon's battery there, if that's the case should I buy an extra battery just in case the one inside Cowon goes bad in say within a year? (I'm a heavy audio user about 5 to 8 hours a day). 5. Is there a picture-by-picture thread where they replace an A2 battery? 6. Any idea what is a good deal in terms of Singapore Dollars for the Cowon A2 30 GB?? The reason I'm asking about battery even though it's 'supposed' to be so good, is I have never in my life got as much battery life as claimed by other users of a product. Yeah I have the worst luck with batteries. Pessimistic but Thanks in advance. Last edited by Teknomancer; 08-11-2007 at 05:38.. |

well, I try my best at these.
1) I havn't heard of someone connecting an ipod to a cowon, but you might be able to transfer files. Note that protected video and music files (like most you get from itunes) will NOT work on the A2. 2) If it's a Divx or Xvid (.avi) MP4 file, it'll likely work. Files that are less than Cowon's full resolution (480 x 272) will not streatch to fit. They will show at their native resolution. Battery life for videos is about 10 hours. 3) I havn't heard of any study of differing codecs, resolutions, etc. as related to battery life. I would think it is unlikely to have much effect. The only thing I know will increase battery life is playing music with the LCD off. 4) The battery is not meant to be user replaceable. 5) There are threads in this forum where the case is opened, including shots of the battery and it's connection. 6) At the current exchange rate, I'd guess $450-500 Singapore.

Bad News Guys
![]() Really sad to say this, but Cowon A2 is no longer available in Singapore. I searched quite a bit from large malls to obscure shops to the supposedly official Cowon distributor in Singapore. It's no longer available. I ended up getting a somewhat decent buy on an Archos 504 + DVR station. I don't really like the bulkyness of the whole setup to record video. I'm quite disappointed that I had to go in for Archos, which is definitely not what I aimed at but considered it as a last resort. I hope my Archos suits my needs though. Thanks a lot. |

The A2 is enormously overpriced in Singapore. I live here; I ordered one through Amazon and vPost, shipped to my home in less than a week for less than 500 SGD. (And this was before the mad price drop of the A2.)
Your mileage may vary. |
