Help i'm in trouble with my iaudio X5 20GB

I ve an iaudio X5 but there is almost 3 weeks ago i ve deleted the file : desktop.ini after that there was impossible to download my music.

So i try download the firmware from cowon site but nothing change, disappointed i formatted my player. But i didn't take care and i choose to format in FAT32.

Now nothing works anymore, when i switch power on there is message : HDD error and it switch off. And if it is connected with usb cable i can only see it as hdd in system file of control panel as : Toshiba mk2006 gal usb device but i can't formatted it or see it even if i go in administration tools.

Is there anyone who could help me or do i ve to forget to save my iaudio X5

Thanks a lot to everyone who answer

I doubt deleting desktop.ini was directly responsible for your problem - Macs, for instance, wouldn't know what to do with it anyway. I'd guess your disk generated an error (maybe during the deletion), an you have compounded things by formatting (or failing to). FAT32 was the right format anyway, but if the disk is sick it might not have worked.

Does the drive show up in 'my computer'? Is it listed if you 'start, run, diskmgt.msc' (it may not have a drive letter, but is it even there at all). If it does have a drive letter, you should be able to run chkdsk from a cmd window.

I m so confused and i begin to think that i ve to return it to shop because i m boring to not find what to do with.

But if you've some idea i'll try because i won't let it down so quickly.

If you are getting the 'HDD error' message at switch on, and the PC can't see the drive at all, then I would suggest sending it back to the shop is probably the best thing to do. It should be under warranty if is is less than a year old (depending where you are in the world).

There are things you could try, but they may invalidate the warranty (so far you did nothing stupid or illegal, unless you have been dropping it on the floor or whatever), so take it back to the seller and let them fix it.

Disk drives do fail, sadly (even Flash memory fails, but not quite as often)..
