The M3 is sweeter than a honey glazed sugar cookie. Best DAP since ....ever. However the x5 is a serious contender that can change the shape of the mp3 world. There is only one thing though......there are no standard inputs on the x5 or m5? They both do mp3 incoding and voice recording but where is the external mic jack? Where is the in put jack? This is a bit disapointing. Can someone shed light on this? Is it on the cradle? If it is that's pretty messed up right there. So if I am going into a sales meeting and bring my x5 alone for the ride I have to tote my cradle and cables to? WTF!
:-)

As with the M3, you have to use a subpack.

can you see the the third picture on the second row? its a rectangle sorta thing. thats the subpack. exactly the same function as the cradle (line in/out, charge, usb) but is more portable and uglier looking than the cradle. and for zaphanathpaneah. your bigging up the m3, when your problem with the x5 is that it has no inputs or outputs on the player itself, however this is the same with the m3. you HAVE to use a cradle or the subpack for all that work. and as for you having to take the cradle and wires with you, just make the wires discreet and im sure everyone will admire the x5 in its cradle looking slik. it works the same as the cradle and also has an analogue line in and out like the cradle. |

ok, thanks!
Why didn't they build in the line-in etc.? cause now you always must carry that subpack with you, when you want to record something. ________ Herbalaire Vaporizer Last edited by luuk; 03-14-2011 at 08:18.. |

I reckon to keep the size down. The iRiver players are very big. At first it bothered me also but then I thought A: I won't need it all that often and B: You need to carry a cable anyway so an extra sub-pack (which nicely slots in the bottom) isn't to big of a deal.
Besides it's not a reason for me to look elsewhere. |

Luuk: it's because of the size. The player would be bigger if the built it in.
First, I found the subpack annoying but now I see how clever it is. Most of the time you don't use those functions. And if you want to use them you'll also have to take the necessary cables with you mostly. And those cables are much bigger than the subpack. The only drawback is the danger of losing it.

that's true;
I won't use it very often. I had read it wrong, I thought the voicerecording was also on the subpack, and that would be a big deal, cause i will use that often. Luckely that is positioned in the player itself. again thanks! really can't wait for the reviews, cause I haven't made my choise yet. Will it be de iaudio x5l 30gig. or the samsung yh-t70... has anyone here experience with a samsung? ________ V8 ENGINE Last edited by luuk; 03-14-2011 at 08:18.. |

Thanks taz for the pics. THe sub pack is ideal. It beats carrying a cradle. I have a H10 right now and I do ALOT of recordings for meetings and public lectures and the built in mic is bad. YOu see when you record from a HDD device it records to the built in cache and then writes to the drive. However when the drive spins up, .....do you see where I'm going with this??? Yes when the drive spins up you can hear it in the recordings. It sounds like a dentis drill every 5 mins. Quite annoying. My friend has an iRiver 320 and it rocks. It has everything built in, of course...it's thick and the screen is small but i hope to trump him with my new x5 when it is release in 90 days int he US. (which is what I expect)
Oh yeah...one more thing...The reason I need the line in is for the reason stated above. You MUST..use an external mic to do record voice unless you love the sound of a dentist drill as effects in your music or recordings.

The iRiver H3xxx is thick and 20mm thick. The length and width is fine. It is a great player / recorder and it trumps the ipod hands down with feature set. If the x5 is going to be that thick with the hump then no one should have a problem with the iRiver H3xx. Trust me I have played with it at my friends house for hours. He has an ipod and iRiver and he uses his ipod as a paper weight.

Thanks.
Does it fit nicely in an average size pocket? What about the weight? |

It fits in my shirt pocket with out being seen however.....it is a bit heavy. It is heavier than my H10 or course and a bit heavier than an ipod. Not too bad though. You get use to it.
