me still likes the look of Q5. Plain and simple, smart and modern. I prefer the Q5 black finish as well.

7" screen though, not too portable i guess.

Archos 704 is less portable then the Q5... While the target markets might overlap some... I believe the Q5 is still aimed at portability, while the 704 is less so aimed at that...

Like other Archos products, the docking station and codecs are extra. Sure the screen is larger than the Q5, but it has the same resolution.

And battery life... 5 hours rated for videos (which means less). Not so hot.

I don't think Archos can "take" cowon customers.. as Cowon customers are just that -- they like the company because they have particular preferences about their products that they produce.

Some examples being the portability aspect (the 704 is 7 inches, too big to be considered "portable"), the fact that you need a docking station to use some of the better featues, combined with all the "extras" you need to buy to get started.

Then theres Cowons famous firmware upgrades, something of which archos is hardly known for.

And plus, I don't want to buy a product whos reviews refer to it as a "i-pod on steriods". Thats just... wrong.

Edit: and oh yes, don't forget the crappy (hah, to say the least) battery life on that 704... 5 Hours??? ick. Well all know its always tested under "ideal" conditions as well. Don't forget that you've gotta BUY h.264, AAC plugins, etc. Bleh.

I do not think this is really anything to worry about. I still see the q5 taking this category. We have the q5 protoype in office, I have seen the demos for the gps capability, we are waiting for a beta version of a working q5 soon to be arriving. If you guys are patient you may even see a video leak of the Cowon Q5 in action. I will post this when this is available.

Well now thats what I like to hear! Any details about the GPS? Its a built in receiver, correct?

i think the gps may be sold separately.

A coworker this morning showed me his Archos 504. it is a sexy beast. Large and pretty. THe video recording is stupendouos. But it is large even for a 5 inch screen. The A3 is thinner. Archos cannot take Cowon customers because COWON has what Archos does not. Features my man!! Features!! Archos is a player alone. You have to pay more for the recording attachments. :-( it does not have fm nor fm recording. it sucks.

the 504 has a 4.3" screen, and i thought the a3 was 23mm thick?, and so same as 504.
why would a cowon worker have an archos?
