Default Cowon Tech Suport on SDHC

I am not quoting this as gospel truth but this is the response I got on my inquiry of supported sd and sdhc cards for the D2. It doesn't really make sense to say SDHC and then 4gb as though the two were mutually inclusive and the player can only support 4gb sdhc after the next firmware upgrade rather than larger size sdhc, but here is the response from Cowon tech support verbatim:

"As for sd cards, it has been stated that our players will officially support sdhc 4gb flash when the firmware is released to do so. There may be compatiblity issues with non sdhc 4gb sd cards".

You can get 4gb regular SD cards although it has been pointed out that these are not built to the SD card standard as the standard only goes to 2gb.

This means there may be compatibility issues with some of the non-SDHC 4gb SD cards. There are a few cards that have been confirmed to work with the D2 by forum members here.

That being said if 4gb is said to be sdhc and "official" firmware hasnt been release for their support in the d2, and some are working, we need some volunteers to buy the 8gb ones to give them a whirl. Id do it myself but we dont have the return policy here in Australia that Americans do with best buy etc

I don't have my unit with me at the moment but is there a screen that tells you the capacity of the card inserted? If so, I'll volunteer to get an 8GB SDHC card.

Spoke to soon....I can buy an SDHC card and have a 30 day return policy through NewEgg.com but problem are the readers. SDHC readers seem to have some problems having support under WinXP. Before I buy one of these, I'll need to do a bit more digging.

It's really nice to know that they can improve things with firmware updates and that things aren't limited by the hardware. The thought of possibly using 8GB SD HC cards, and having future facelifts to the user interface make the player that much more appealing!
