Like others on this forum and following their expample I am now ripping to flac on my pc and using ogg on my M3 with some downloaded mp3s. I also have some "Flac worthy" files on my M3 that I felt deserved/needed flac for full enjoyment. What are your criteria for going lossless with a track/cd on your portable?? For me: 1. Great music that I like (obviously) 2. Subtle sounds in the background easily missed (ie: background on soundtracks) 3. Instrument intensive music going from loud to soft or with fade in/outs.

Disclaimer: This is all Subjective and may even be placebo effect, but hey it's my M3 to love and enjoy.

I movie soundtracks for sure are better in FLAC.
Cymbals sound way better in FLAC and ok in Ogg but horrible in Mp3

I guess one can only use Flac or OGG from ripping from cd's but not converting from mp3's. No online stores or file share sites have music available in oggboris or flac. What can I do with my 3000 songs in mp3 besides delete them? I never download in bit rate less thatn 192.

For portable, I don't (I5).
Otherwise...because yesterday I ripped Promised Land for the fifth time.
But it was in EAC, with secure mode on and set properly, the proper read offset, and then encoded to FLAC.
I don't bother with cue sheets for making 100% perfect copies (which would CDDB just fine), but for any listening use, I will never have to rip the album again. Period. That's the great thing about using lossless.

I'm currently converting a ton of music to MP3 and Ogg in FB2K to see what settings I prefer for the space on the player.
