I think cowon realized what potential the A2 had AFTER it was released, mostly because of places like this. I can definately see the A3 as just an A2 with the "proper hardware to do the right job".
The release of the Q5 as well makes me lean in that direction, as alot of people requested Q5 features on the A2 (bluetooth, wifi, touchscreen, gps, etc) |

If they got the mkv/ogm down, then i don't see why h264 would be an issue.

H.264 is an issue even for a lot of today's desktop computers. You need a lot of CPU power to decode h.264 video. You don't need any CPU power to support MKV, it might need even less resources then AVI.

Beautiful ... if they release a 60GB version, my A2 will be up on eBay a few weeks before so I can snag one when they come out. I'd upgrade just for that alone.
Don't quote me on this, but aren't iPod videos h.264? If the iPod can handle it, surely the A3 can do fine. I was thinking the PSP plays h.264, as well. |

Does anyone know if this thing will sorts songs by ID3 tags? And will it support multiple playlists?
I'm also not a real big fan of the way the A2 displays cover art. It just doesn't look as nice as it does on my iPod's screen. Perhaps it's because the iPod has a greater pixel density for it's screen size? |

You're right, both iPod and PSP play h.264. But the iPod has a lot of restrictions - only baseline profile and very low resolution (only up to 320x240). I'm not interested in h.264 support, if it should be like this. MPEG-4 ASP (XviD) at 640x480 will have much better picture then such h.264 video. PSP has slightly better h.264 support but still far away from being usable. |

Sorry, this might have been answered somewhere else in the thread but I seem to have missed it... when it says the A3 supports VOB files does that actually mean you can transfer them directly from a DVD without any conversion and it will play? That's just hot... I'm definately getting one if that's the case, so I can watch movies before conversion (naturally I'd convert them eventually, but still a very nice feature).

You realize VOB files that you'd get off a DVD would be rather large, right? Just checking.

and the time to transfer 4.7gb over would be painfull, unless you connected the a3 to your computer and saved the ripto it. But you maybe able to use the menu of the dvd which would be neat. I have a divx player hooked up to the tv that reads vobs and this can do it.

Oh, I know it would be big, it would be a temporary thing, like if I got a DVD right before a trip and didn't have time to rip it; it would be nice to just stick the file on there... I don't find the transfer time that bad usually. I'm used to changing the videos on my A2 all the time, and when I changed about 5.5 GB of video last night, it took less than 10 minutes. This is solely for ease, and by no means a permanent way in which I'd store my video.
On the subject of menus... since the A3 seems to be able to play DivX 6, I suppose that means it can use all those fancy features that come with the .divx extension files... not that there are many movies like that, but maybe if I get an A3 I'll finally get around to watching Star Wars: Revelations or whatever that free one is called, hehe. |

You can use subtitles withou menu. I alway delete menus from DVDs. In fact I rip them just to get rid of them. Anyway I don't think A3 will support menu (or at least I hope so :-)). ubrikkean The .divx container is a hack of AVI. Not a very progressive thing. MP4 and MKV have the potential to do the same and much more. Anyway .divx container has nothing to do with DivX codec version. In fact all DivX and XviD versions are compliant to the same standard - MPEG-4 ASP. Except of DivX 3.xx, originally created by Microsoft, so you can not expect it to be compliant to any standard. ;-) If there is at least basic support of advanced Matroska features (more audio/subtitle streams, chapters, tags), there's no need to support DIVX. |

Well if I rip a movie myself it will almost certainly be in .avi with XviD, mostly 'cause I'm used to that... but I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean about only DivX 3 being different; I mean, my A2 certainly couldn't play any files encoded with DivX 6, whatever extension used. I don't care about the features really, it's just nice to use a player where I don't have to convert video to watch it, no matter what the file type is.
