Default Charging Via PC..

An old question, frequently posted, and I haven't time to search, but wasn't this agreed to be impossible?

Accidentally turned my player on whilst connected to the pc, and it's charging happily - red light, charging on the screen, full monty.

Not complaining - hell no! - but my previous player (also X5L) certainly couldn't and didn't.

Anyone else? Main USB port, BTW, not the host.

No, it was not agreed impossible. What was agreed impossible was charging using the USB Host Port. It is also suspected impossible to charge while the device is turned on via the PC (not using the AC adapter). Only a couple people have suggested they can do this and I have never been able to reproduce it, nor has the majority of this forum.

For information on charging the X5 via USB (a.k.a via PC) checkout this...

Thanks. Wish I could claim it was deliberate, but... still charging happily.

If it's relevant, and anyone else wants to try:

Firmware v2.10e

Connected X5L - turned off - to pc via cradle. Device recognised by pc.

Turned on X5L, began charging immediately. Not recognised on pc.

As stated, tried every combo with my previous player with no luck. First time I've used the cradle in months, can't see why it should be pertinent, but will try with subpack later.

Except I think things are happening a little different than you describe there. When you connect the player to the cradle, if it is turned off, it will turn itself on in order to connect to the PC. Then when you shut if off while still connected it will go into the charging mode. If you plug an AC adapter into the cradle you can get charged while also being connected to the computer.

I see your point - that's exactly what I was doing - but my point is that this never happened with my previous player, and not for the want of trying either. So maybe my old one was faulty without my knowledge (it bricked suddenly after 8 - 9 months, Cowon couldn't find out why, hence the new player)? And in case I've misunderstood you, no AC adapter in sight...

Sure the same would happen with the subpack, if I could find the little bugger
