Default Artist/Album/Track displayed in play mode?

Hi,

Just got my M5 yesterday, upgraded the firmware to 2.11 and first used it properly last night.

First impressions are very good, but I've got one question - I'd have thought that while a track is playing, the Artist/Album/Track title would be displayed on the LCD.

It looks like there are little icons down the left hand side of the LCD - but no corresponding text to the right of it. I've searched through the settings section but can't find anything to make the LCD display the current track info.

Just wondering if the M5 does this, or if no info is displayed. Be nice to glance at the display when a track I've not heard before (e.g. ripped off a new cd), and know the track title.

TIA

Jonathan

EDIT - cowonamerica.com lists the 2.11 f/w as beta - I got it from cowonglobal.com (I'm in the UK) - didn't say anything about it being a beta there.

Are you sure your music is properly tagged? If you're not sure what I'm talking about, you should download Media Monkey or another music organization program which will allow you to see how your music is set up and make any needed changes.

I'm sure it's tagged correctly (it shows up properly when I browse through the folders using the joystick). I use JuK on KDE (Linux) and MediaMonkey in Windows and all of the music appears properly tagged in it.

Does the M5 only support ID3v1 tags?

I'll check more of the tracks I've put on it to see if they all exhibit this.

I think the M5 can get confused if you have v1 _and_ v2 tags, FWIW. Unfortunately, since I don't actually have an M5, I'm kind of speculating.

Hmmm. Some of the files I play seem to display OK - others only display the track info at the start of the track (e.g. when the HDD is spinning up - when the eggtimer is on the screen), then that info disappears.

I'm really not looking forward to renaming everything.

Actually, some of the files I just dragged into the MUSIC folder while the M5 was mounted as a drive in Linux, others I transferred in XP using JetShell ... maybe that's the common factor. I'll need to look into it a bit more I guess.

I really hope this isn't a problem with the tags in the files on my PC ... I can't face having to go through ~10000 tracks (again)

EDIT - JetAudio -> JetShell
