Sorry I made a big mistake when I posted this. I still am correct about what I said with the harddrive capable of being used in the A2 being in the Gigabeat, but only the F41 model. Sorry about my mistake but at least we know which product they can be found in. I'll continue to look for places to purchase the F41 or the harddrive itself. Untill then
So far I have found places to purchase the drive, unfortunatly all the online stores are in Japanese -_- Last edited by Tithis; 08-13-2006 at 11:40.. |

I havnt found anything else out. The Gigabeat F41 was scheduled for release awhile ago. But no American internet stores have it. Right now the only way to get one of these players or its harddrive would be to order it from on of the Japanese sites that have it.
I am looking for a number to contact Toshiba by to try and get some updated information. When I do I'll post it here. Edit: Alright I did a little run around with Toshiba, called their main branch and got numbers to other branches when I finaly got in contact with the Gigabeat division. Apparently they dont even have any information on the F41. So right now it only seems to be a Japanese product. They also didnt have any information about an American release of it. I might try again later and try to get in contact with the Harddrive groupd to try and get information on just the harddrive. I figured it wouldnt be released here untill the F41 was. If anyone else wants to try and get information the number I started with was (800) 457-7777. Last edited by Tithis; 08-15-2006 at 14:35.. |

Unfortunatly I the F40 doesnt have the harddrive like I once thought. The F40 does have a 40gb harddrive that could connect and work inside the A2 but its a dual disk harddrive. The A2 doesnt have enough room for it. The F41 though has toshiba's new 40gb single disk harddrive.
Heck if the A2 could take one of those duel disk drives people could have put the dual disk version of the F41's harddrive inside it for an 80gb A2. But as I was writing this I did happen to find a site that ships the F41 out of Japan http://www.audiocubes.com/product/To...P3_Player.html unfortunatly it still costs a pretty penny, to get the f41 you would have to shell out 278(shipping included) they seem to ship everywhere. edit:I realized I never actually gave the model number for the harddrive. Its the toshiba 1.8 MK4007GAL drive Last edited by Tithis; 08-22-2006 at 11:57.. |

the new up-coming archos players have like 160gig. That is more than what almost all laptop manufactures offers

The new 120GB 1.8" Hard drives from Seagate are going to be dual platter. Now this means that 60GB will be the new single platter size, and this drive would most likely work in the A2.

After looking it up a bit I realized that this 1.8 harddrive seagate is releasing is going to be for the ipod. So it will probobly have the same form factor as the other ipod harddrives (and for those that dont know single platter Ipod drives are the same used in the a2)

40GB per platter is the current maximum size from any 1.8" manufacturer. So a 120GB single-platter 1.8" HDD is extremely unlikely. I can see in the near future 60-80GB per platter being the new maximum single-platter capacity.
Just as a correction, the 60GB Ipod Video uses a dual-platter Toshiba 1.8" HDD. I know this because Toshiba doesn't currently make any single-platter 60GB hard drives, and the Ipod Video uses Toshiba hard drives. Link to Toshiba's 1.8" HDD product listing if you don't believe me. Products ending in "GAL" are the single-platter ones. The Toshiba Gigabeat F41's hard drive should be compatible with the A2, but there's 2 main problems: 1. Finding a Gigabeat F41. 2. Finding someone willing to buy an F41 to disassemble, and try putting the drive into the A2. As for who's making the 160GB 1.8" HDDs, I'm going to say Hitachi is going to be making them. They said a while back when they announced their 160GB 2.5" model, they'd have a 1.8" model out by year's end.
