Dear Everybody,
I'm very happy today because I have more than doubled the OF battery runtime. I've a one year old iaudio x5, and due to the massive utilization my battery runtime was less than 6 hours. Now thanks to rockbox I get 13h30, that's incredible! Here the details: Original Firmware: less than 6 hours (I wasn't listening to so I don't know exactly) With an album art WPS: Rockbox CVS 16.07.06 (USBOTG_off): 7h54 Rockbox CVS 16.07.06 (USBOTG_off)+lcd_off : 8h30 Rockbox CVS 16.07.06 (USBOTG_off)+lcd_off+radio&recording: 12h36 Without album art WPS: Rockbox CVS 16.07.06 (USBOTG_off)+lcd_off+radio&recording: 13h27 So I think that the radio&recording patch initialize the radio unit which was an important power dissipator beside the USBOTG chip. Can anyone confirm my results? Bernych ________ smoke kills Last edited by bernych; 02-01-2011 at 23:32.. |

If this is true, I think I'm ready to try Rockbox.

If you are able to double your battery-life with rb, what should i espect with a x5l battery which runs >30h with the original fw? 40-50h?
Although i dont really think that this is possible, it would also be great to have the same battery life as with the of, maybee even with album art and colorized wps and so on... ![]() Last edited by PhR3aK; 07-19-2006 at 17:30.. |

I can confirm this.
I have Rockbox CVS 18.07.06 with several patches applied, including radio&recording but without lcd_off. A quick test over 7 hours starting with fully charged battery gave mit a capacity drop of 3.2% per hour (slope of the battery_bench curve) for MP3 @ 128k. I expect a runtime of 30+ hours in total. Compare this to the 24+ hours without radio&recording patch. |

Now that USBOTG_off and radio&recording are both included in the CVS, can someone with a good battery just test the total battery runtime either on the X5 or the X5L? Can the X5L really reach 40hours?
Alternatively you can use my build http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/sh...44&postcount=3 which also include lcd_off Bernych ________ herbal vaporizer Last edited by bernych; 02-01-2011 at 23:32.. |

i installed your latest build, bernych and charged my x5l 30 full. the player said it's completed with charging, but when i started the battery test yesterday at 1:45 pm it only showed up 94%! does anybody know, why it didn't show me 100%???
anyway: now 19 hours later the player is at 30%, so it's 3,37% per hour or 9 more hours to play. so it will be about 28 hours for me. really not bad. with the missing 6% at the start of the test, i probably could reach 30 hours ... i was playing about 75% ogg (q4) files and 25% mp3's (160-192kbps) with a volume level of -20 to -15. backlight was set to 15 seconds (no caption backlight), interaction (just pressing forward sometimes) for about 4 hours. i used my theme boeselglass-5 with 75x75px covers.

boeselhack - I had this also with a x5 (not l). The battery meter never got up to 100% with rockbox. I later descovered that I was getting much less than 12-14 hours with the original firmware and I concluded that the battery had lost it's full charging capacity after 11 months of daily use. Apparently Cowon agreed since they accepted my unit for repair under the warrantly.

Before you do that you might want want to look here:
http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm ( thanks to Zeus's Uncle and others who suppled this link). Apparently full discharges are not good for Lithium batteries. This isssue has been discussed and debated here before - take a look here for one such discussion: http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9651 Hope this is helpful. |

Hey Bernych,
Great news! But where could I download your rb-version? I guess I'm just to blind to find it here. Haven't followed this forum for a couple of weeks ... ![]()

here i am again. my first test ended at 21.45h today, so my battery lasted 32 hours starting at 94% (because of a bit damaged battery?) if my x5l started with full 100% it would have run 34 hours or so. that's damn close to the 35 hours promised by the OF specifications. maybe somebody can reach 35 hours or even more, if all the options like crossfading are switched off, too.
congratulations rockbox guys, that's really amazing
