Hi
Just got my A2 on special offer from Tesco online (UK) and it's charging up. Looks very nice and sturdy I must say. I've read quite a bit about screen protectors, alternative cases etc (though not as much as for the Zen Vision M which seems to scratch when you breathe on it). Is it just that people usually go over the top to preserve new things (no offence intended), or is the A2 really easily damaged and scratched? The leather case it comes in looks quite presentable to me - though I'm not going to carry it about in my back pocket so size is not important - and there's a bit of plastic film on the screen which I'll probably take off and scrap when the novelty wears off. So is there anybody out there who just uses the A2 naked as nature intended, with only the supplied case for protection, and is that a bad thing? I'd rather pay £7 for a plastic screen film than have a scratched screen, but am just wondering if it's necessary. ![]() |

Even the idea of my A2's screen getting damaged is traumatizing enough that I'm willing to shell out some $ to deter it from happening.

I think it's just the idea that if a screen protector gets scratched, you can just peel it off and put on a new one.
Some of these full body protectors and things seem like overkill to me. Considering how fast PMP technology is changing, it seems unlikely many people will still be using their A2 in 2 years. |

I have been using only the leather case it comes with for half a year now and the screen has not been damaged.

Same here. I don't see the need for a screen protector. I have been using the leather case only and to date have no scratches anywhere on my A2.

The leather case does a fine job of protecting the A2, but it's a bit bulky. Recently I've been carrying it around bare and no damage has been done yet. Though I'm a coward and will be buying the official screen protector as soon as my nearest store restocks it (though it has additional dust prevention and anti-glare qualities well worth getting it for, protection aside).
If you'll look hard enough you'll find threads about the need for screen protectors - someone even mentioned trying to "key" it in the corner to check how tough it is - and failed. No gurantees, but it sounds pretty sturdy. |

I just use the case that came with it, and it has been working fine for the past 8 months I have had my A2. No scratches what so ever.

Interesting, thank you all.
I think I'll just stick with the case it came in. I tend to be careful with things anyway, and it's not going to get thrown about. Funny how we need validation for our decisions, isn't it? :-) |

I guess I went the really lazy cheap route and never pulled the soft plastic static cover that came on the plexi glass of the A2. It's getting mucked up a little now, but it has worked well.

@comet
That was what I did, and when it got mucked up I replaced it with a similar, but much more transparent. Don't know if you're in the UK, but if you are, there's a link to what I used on this thread: http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showth...492#post100492 |

I have also only used the leather case with no issues. Have had my A2 since they first came out. One if the best gadgets I have ever bought. :-)

I plan to get the Invisible Sheild. For protecting the screen and preventing that dust problem I've heard about.

i peeled off the original protector after a week..
instead i use this palm screen protector which is a bit smaller than the screen but works perfectly.. the way to get it on wothout bubbles is to use a credit card to press it down while ur putting it on. |

when i had the A2, i didn't bother with a case, though i had a screen protector
imo, the case makes the whole unit bigger and ugly (i shake my head everytime i see ipod nano users with protectors, it's not nano anymore ) |
