Default Searching by file tags?

Hello everybody,

I'm a very satisfied iAudio M3L user. I really like this DAP but I'm kinda looking to upgrade (to something that supports ID3 tags (for MP3s) and Xiph Comments (for Ogg Vorbis) so I could search and easily locate the files I need in my collection). I have a couple of options here:

1. Continue using my M3L: like I said, this is a really great player, but the problem is that I really can't find a decent tool that can tag and organize my entire collection into a filesystem hierarchy (so I can use it on my M3L). Does anybody here know of a good tool for the job? (by the way, I use linux -- and I don't really care whether to use a GUI or text-based tool)

2. Get a new DAP: always good for a change I really like the new iAudio 6 (eventhough the maximum storage space it can offer is 4GB [at the time of this writing]). Does it support ID3 tags / Xiph Comments? I don't care that much about ID3 tags, but I would certainly like to have Xiph Comments support (since most of my files are in Ogg Vorbis format).

Your help is greatly appreciated.

1. MediaMonkey.

2. I _think_ it supports ID3 tags, but don't quote me on that. I know one (or more?) of the new players does.

there are some issues with OGG tags, but ID3v1 works well. the iAudio6 does not currently support ID3v2 tags.

You can browse like an ipod (Music browser mode) or just by file/folder.

For the OGG tags there was a thread started: http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9859

Hope that helps!

doniago, MediaMonkey doesn't have a linux port, but KDE's amarok seems to be just what I was looking for, but thanks for the tip anyway.

mr.doodle, thanks, I'm glad that i6 supports ID3 and Ogg tags (after reading that thread). I should get mine soon!
